Anyone know if these external drives can be opened and just use the hard-drive bare (as an internal drive)? This always worked fine for me until a recent Seagate 3TB a couple years ago that would only mount/format as a 1.2 TB when outside of it’s “Seagate approved” case.
The reason I ask is because it’s often SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper to buy drives in these external case (when they are first released that is).
