The original Nintendo Switch revitalized the idea of a gaming handheld for the modern world, leading to a ton of new devices hitting the market over the past couple of years. As we now approach the debut of Switch 2, one of the big questions is how Nintendo’s latest will compare to the PC-like gaming handhelds available today. After spending some time with the Lenovo Legion Go S as of late, I’m all the more on board with a new Switch.

After nearly a decade, Nintendo finally returned with a true successor to the original Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2, unveiled at Nintendo’s Direct event, brings long-awaited upgrades across the board – from display and performance to multiplayer features and accessories. I spent some hands-on time with the device at press-only Nintendo event yesterday, and as someone who has owned every Switch variant from the OG Switch to the Switch OLED, here are my thoughts.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct goes live today. After months of questions and speculation, Nintendo will take the virtual stage this morning to fully reveal the Nintendo Switch 2. After a first-look official trailer finally ended years of waiting back in January, Nintendo is set to host a lengthy Direct event this morning on Switch 2 and it’s all set to go live in just a few hours time now.

After years of rumors, leaks, and speculation that finally culminated in an official reveal of the next-generation of Nintendo gaming earlier this year, the flagpole for this stage of the Switch 2 launch is just over the next hill folks! Our countdown to the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct rolls on and today we are turning our attention back to the games. The internet has been ablaze the last few days with a string of pre-order date leaks – Best Buy says they begin on April 2 right after the Direct showcase and leaked internal documents say April 9…we will see – but whenever it releases (likely June), it’s really all about the games, and if you’re not talking Mario and friends, you’re talking Zelda. 

Turtle Beach is out with its first accessory in its sim racing ecosystem – the VelocityOne Multi-Shift. And much like its base sim racing package, the Multi-Shift is a multi-purpose shifter that can be set up as an h-pattern shifter, sequential shifter, or a handbrake. Why not get a workout while you’re working? It’s an option I’ve always considered as someone who works from home, but I never pulled the trigger. I am not a big fan of MagSafe wallets in general, but these lockable models have been real attention grabbers around here over the last few months, and I thought it was time to see what all the fuss was about. There has been some talk regarding a second screen functionality for Switch 2, you know, DS-style, but a newly surface patent filing is also pointing at potential magnetic smartphone integration for Nintendo’s new console. We have already seen details on some relatively new patents that all but confirm the magnetic Joy-Con and mouse mode, but it looks as though Nintendo could have some kind of magnetic attachment in the works that could enable a second screen functionality by way of your smartphone for Switch 2, and potentially and entire modular accessory holder system for other devices. 

If you grew up watching the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s like me, there’s a sweet memory of shooting hoops and wanting to dunk like Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan. In reality, I can barely touch the rim on a ten-foot hoop, but thanks to the Pro Mini Basketball Hoop from BADGOAL, I was able to create my own dunk contest in the comfort of my home office… although my shooting could use a lot of work. FlashFinder is the latest gadget we have come across to implement Apple’s Find My tech. It’s time for a look as the next-generation of portable SSD tech – the new LaCie Rugged SSD Pro5 with Thunderbolt 5 and break-neck speeds. While not the very first portable Thunderbolt 5 SSD out of the gate from one of our favorite brands – that nod goes to the OWC Envoy Ultra, the new LaCie is certainly one of the first new premium models sporting the same date transfer protocol as those ports on your new M4 Mac mini or M4 MacBook Pro (among other things). After we saw major price hikes across the portable SSD space in 2024, and finding myself in need of at least one more modestly-sized external storage solution, the PNY RP60 kept coming back up for a few reasons. Well, this is a not brand I was familiar before giving it a shot for review, nor had I ever tested out a case with a digital canvas on the back of it, but here goes.
