Switch Online NES library already hacked to run unofficial games [Video]

Nintendo Switch Online

The Nintendo Switch has made its fair share of hacker headlines since its release in 2017. Within about a year, jailbreaks allowed for custom apps to run on the system. They even found a hidden version of NES Golf buried on there. Nintendo is certainly no stranger to passionate gamers taking matters into their own hands, considering all of the amazing, and very illegal, home-brew titles and unofficial online services. So with the Switch online service just kicking into gear this week, it was only a matter of time before hackers got down to business. We just didn’t think they would crack it this quickly.

Final Fantasy XV Pocket gets the HD treatment, now out on PS4/X1, Switch soon

(Update 9/14 11:48am): The Nintendo Switch version of Final Fantasy XV Pocket HD Edition is now available with launch pricing: $18 (Reg. $30).

Square Enix launched its latest entry in the storied Final Fantasy series in 2016 to critical praise (for the most part). That was followed up by a series of interesting DLC add-ons and then the Royal or complete Edition hit with loads of enhancements just before the iOS version dropped on the App Store. Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition for mobile was initially revealed in summer 2017 before going live at the top of the year. But now it looks like a somewhat confusing series of events that led to a cancelled Nintendo Direct presentation is pointing at a wider rollout for Square’s handheld version of the game.

Nintendo closing in on 20 million Switch consoles sold, but numbers are starting to drop off

Best Nintendo Switch Accessories

Nintendo has an incredibly successful console generation with the Switch. The console has smashed records all over the place and is nearing 20 million in total sales. All of that sounds pretty impressive but the numbers have started to slide over the last quarter or so. After reporting 2.93 million and 7.23 million units sold in the previous two quarters, sales have slowed down to 1.88 million in the most recent three-month period. That number is still quite high, especially considering it’s the slowest time of year for console sales and the company hasn’t been cranking out as many big-time titles. However, Nintendo is going need an amazing holiday this year in order to meet its sales projections.

Nintendo adds Breath of the Wild Link & Master Cycle to Mario Kart 8 for FREE

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe may not have been the completely new, refreshed cart racing title Switch fans were hoping for when Nintendo’s latest console dropped, but it has been a great addition to the library nonetheless. It’s hard to imagine a new Nintendo console without an updated Mario Kart game to play on it, so it’s easy to see why Nintendo opted for a re-release of sorts while it toils with the next generation Mushroom Kingdom racer.

However, that’s not going to stop Nintendo from introducing new content to the game. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting a free Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild update that will see the titular character in his latest iteration enter the fray.

Nintendo hopes to bolster the Switch’s library with 20 to 30 new indie titles per week

One of the biggest fears after the Switch’s initial announcement was that Nintendo’s latest console wouldn’t have any big system-selling titles. It was arguably the biggest problem facing its predecessor, the Wii U, an issue which loomed over the Switch well past its release. But now well over a year later, it’s pretty safe to say that Nintendo and the third-party developers that they worked with have been able to put together one of the most appealing lineups in the industry.

But Nintendo has no intention of slowing down, as the company is hoping to bolster the Switch’s game lineup with anywhere from 20 to 30 new titles each week for the foreseeable future.

Nintendo demos a dual-Switch mode giving a very unique style of gameplay

The Nintendo Switch is a world-renowned gaming console at this point. With millions upon millions of units sold, Nintendo really has a hit on its hands here. At E3, the gaming icon announced games like Super Smash Bros. and others, but something that didn’t get much press was a dual-Switch gaming configuration that can really bring a new perspective to gaming.

Generally, gaming, though three-dimensional during gameplay, is very two-dimensional, even when doing multi-player. You’re both on the same screen (or your own screen) and each has a similar view to the other. It’s as if you each have an identical system giving you the same feedback, just at a different position on the track or map. Through the demoed gameplay at E3, this new two-Switch style of gaming could change that.

Nintendo looks to launch more mobile-focused and budget-friendly Switch bundle

Nintendo Switch has been an absolute rampage since the day it launched. It has been crushing all kinds of sales records in the United States and Japan. In fact, Nintendo said it sold more Switch consoles in the first year of sales than Wii U across its entire shelf life. We all knew Wii U sales were weak, but that is pretty impressive. According to reports, it is the fastest selling console in both markets and that’s including the legendary PlayStation 2 and the revolutionary Nintendo Wii.

Capcom allows gamers to stream Resident Evil 7 on Switch starting this month

After the release of Resident Evil 6 back in October of 2012, many gamers began to feel both a fatigue on the series and were just generally unpleased with the direction it had been taking over the course of the last couple games. RE4 is easily one of the best games in the series and was able to strike a fantastic balance between horror, exploration and action. In an attempt to return the series to its roots and what made 4 so good, Capcom took RE7 in a new direction focusing almost solely on exploration, scares and immersion.

Nintendo unveils new Switch Charging Dock, here are our favorite alternatives from $10

When Nintendo Switch first arrived on the scene last year, one of the biggest complaints was the flimsy kickstand on the backside of the console. It offered little support, was easy to break, and quite simply didn’t do much in the way of offering additional value.
