Nest Cam 3-pack bundle launching this week for $497 ($100 savings)

Update (11/18 12:00pm): The new Nest Cam 3-pack is now available at Amazon.

Nest Cam, the smart security camera that Google acquired and rebranded under its Nest company after acquiring Dropcam last year, is one of the best of these new breed of Wi-Fi connected, smartphone-controlled home security products. Today Nest is making decking out your home even easier and more affordable with a new 3-pack bundle of Nest Cams that will allow you to save $100 over the normal retail cost of individual units.

The new Nest Cam bundle will sell for $497, representing a $100 total savings on the bundle when considering Nest Cam on its own will run you $199 each (or $185 each currently on Amazon).

I took the Nest Cam for spin in recent months following its launch, and despite a few software shortcomings that Nest will inevitably catch up to in future releases, I overall had an excellent experience with the device and recommended it to just about everyone except diehard HomeKit users.

The new 3-Pack Nest Cam bundle will be available this week online for $497, as well as retail stores including Home Depot and Best Buy.

JoyDrone is a dongle for your Chromecast that supplies wireless audio to any set of speakers

From AirPlay to Bluetooth to Sonos and LG, options abound in this time of less cords and greater convenience. Google recently got into the mix with its Google Cast for audio standard. However, the roll out has been slow and still isn’t available on many products. A nifty little Kickstarter campaign has a plan to bring Chromecast’s wireless streaming capabilities to your speaker system with a dongle add-on. It’s an intriguing hack that seems so simple, you’d wish you would’ve thought of it…

Google partners with Yubico to offer 50% off its two-factor authentication USB thumb drive: $9 (Reg. $18)

Google has announced that it is partnering with Yubico, makers of USB and wireless security technologies, to offer 50% off its U2F security key for eligible Google for Work customers. These small USB thumb drives provide an alternative to two-step authentication which typically relies on SMS messages or Google’s Authentication app. Yubico’s U2F security key regularly retails for $18. Eligible Google accounts can receive a 50% discount, dropping the final price to $9. Visit this page to check to see if you’re eligible for the discount.

This new security option was first introduced by Google back in the fall of last year. Yubico’s thumb drive uses the Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) protocol to deliver authentication. By plugging the USB drive into your computer, Google Chrome can recognize the device and login to services such as Google Work. Since Yubico and Google use the U2F protocol, additional services can also utilize this service for two-factor authentication as well.
