AT&T will offer a streaming service with HBO and WarnerMedia content in late 2019

It’s finally happening. Companies that offer traditional TV services are working towards a world where streaming is the de facto method for catching up on the latest movies and shows. In an attempt to migrate in this direction, WarnerMedia CEO, John Stankey announced that the AT&T/Time Warner merger is allowing the company to pursue a “compelling and competitive” streaming product.

While it would be hard for anyone to argue that the migration from conventional TV to streaming has not been a slow, painful process thus far, Stankey’s statement today shows that progress is certainly being made.

AT&T offers new customers up to $500 in credits to switch to its wireless service plan

DIRECTV or U-verse TV customers can cash in up to $500 of credits towards their bill when they switch to AT&T’s wireless service with DIRECTV or U-verse TV. That’s $300 just for switching, plus $200 trade-in credit per eligible device. This limited time promotion does not require a two year agreement however the trade-in smartphones must be in good working condition.

Full-price iPhones are expensive. It’ll cost you upwards of $949 to get Apple’s latest smartphone without a two year contract (or some scammy financing program) from one of the major carriers.

AT&T offering $50 Google Play credit with purchase of an Android device

Last week, Google, Amazon, and Sonos teamed up to offer 6 months free of Google Play All Access and a $50 Amazon credit with the purchases of a Sonos speaker. Now, Google is partnering with AT&T for another deal. Starting today, you will get $50 in Google Play credit when you purchase a qualifying Android smartphone from AT&T. The credit is valid towards anything in the Play Store, such as apps, movies, music, and TV.

Every Android device AT&T sells qualifies, while iPhones Windows Phones obviously do not. The deal is also valid with all of AT&T’s contract options, including two-year agreements and AT&T Next. The deal will run until July 17th and is available on AT&T’s website only, not in stores. A new line of service is required, as well.
