Best suited for anyone looking to get their first DSLR camera, the Canon EOS Rebel T6i is an entry level DSLR that comes with a bunch of new features that weren’t available on its predecessor, the Canon T5i (see what we think is the best dslr camera). It comes with a 24.2 Megapixel APS C CMOS sensor that makes it easier to fill a full frame, as well as an advanced AF system that offers precise focus. The camera also has a decent battery life that can push you through 440 photos, and a 3-inch touch screen that makes it easier to use. Impressed yet? Take a seat and read through this Canon T6i review to find out why we think its the best canon dslr.

Why We Like It – Canon EOS Rebel T6i Review

The Canon Rebel range of cameras is well known for their sub-$1000 DSLR cameras, and the T6i is one of the best out of that batch. It comes fitted with a 24.2 Megapixel CMOS AF sensor, and supports high-speed continuous shooting with up to 50 frames per second.

Pros
  • High ISO performance
  • 3-inch touch screen
  • Built in Wifi & NFC for easy sharing
Cons
  • Battery life could be better

Performance

Despite being an entry level camera, the Canon T6i delivers surprisingly good image quality. This is as a result of its 24.2 Megapixel APS C Sensor, which measures about 22.3 x 14.9 mm and offers more resolution than its predecessor, the Rebel T5i at 18 Megapixels (if you prefer a camera with high resolution and fairly high shooting speed, read our Nikon D850 Review to see why this camera comes highly recommended). It doesn’t match the resolution of the Canon EOS 5Ds at 50.6 megapixels, but it does have a high ISO range of 100 to 12800, making it great especially when capturing photos in low light. For shooting fast motion scenes, the EOS Rebel T6i also comes equipped with a 19 point AF system which is also an upgrade from the 9 points that the Canon T5i offers. Lastly, in terms of video quality, the camera captures full HD videos in 60p, with the only issue being that it doesn’t come with a built-in mic for audio recording.

Design

The Canon EOS Rebel T6i isn’t really that unique in terms of appearance and design. It looks quite similar to the T6s, save for a few things such as the lack of an info screen on its top plate, and also the lack of a control dial for quick access to exposure settings. The camera is also available in two kit lens options, where you can get the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, or opt for the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens package which is a bit more expensive. Just like the Canon EOS 80D, the EOS Rebel T6i also comes with an oscillating 3-inch screen that’s mainly operated through touch, making it easier to take selfies or do self recordings.

Value

Sharing your videos and photos from the Canon T6i is a breeze thanks to its built in WiFi and NFC capabilities. This even gets way easier once you download the Canon Camera Connect app, which allows for direct upload onto your social media profiles. To add to all that, another fun feature you’ll get to try out with the app is remote capture, where your phone screen becomes the viewfinder and you get a live view of the sensor. This means you’ll be able to set up your camera and shoot from a distance. The camera also comes with a 1 year warranty period, which you can claim in case it arrives with any defects. Canon EOS Rebel T6i Review Wrap Up

Also known as the Canon 750D outside the US, the Canon EOS Rebel T6i is a decent choice for a first DSLR camera. It is well equipped with great features, and being under the $1000 price tag, it remains a fantastic option for anyone that’s operating within a budget and still wants to get great value for money.
