The Biktrix Juggernaut Ultra FS is of exceptional quality with a high-end feature set that is great for heavy people and heavier riders. This is also an incredibly durable bicycle, with a 6061 aluminum frame and aluminum, and highly adjustable, seat post. The Tektro dual-piston hydraulic brakes are incredibly safe, passing all of our stop tests with ease, and the 330-pound max load capacity was also nice.

Though the Velo plush saddle is not rigid and is rather comfortable, it is on the narrower side, which may not suit all consumers. Additionally, this bike is on the heavier side, at 75 pounds, which could make it somewhat frustrating to carry as you move it to and from storage. It’s durability though makes it worth your money, just like what you get with the best kids mountain bikes.

Cons
  • Integrated display is bare bones

As for cargo hauling, this electric bike comes equipped with a sturdy rear rack and a front-facing basket. We loved the reliable hydraulic disc brakes, which passed all of our stop tests, and the 625Wh battery, which can go up to 75 miles on a single charge.

Though this electric bike does contain an integrated display, we found it to be rather bare-bones, offering only the slimmest of data points. This display can also not be removed while parked, which could make it attractive to would-be thieves. But since it cannot be removed, then the best bike lock might help a bit.

Though the motor does a decent job with inclines and that large maximum load capacity, it does max out at 12 miles per hour, which could be an issue for some. Additionally, the lithium-ion battery can only get around 15 miles of use out of a single charge, though it does complete a recharge in just three hours. This is still one of the best bikes on the market.

The max load here is 350 pounds and the telescoping seatpost can accommodate rider heights from 5’1” to 6’4”.

Rad created their own custom tires for this bike and we found them to be excellent for road riding and light off-roading, however, their relatively small size means they may not excel with rough terrains. Also, the integrated brake light, which automatically shines whenever the brakes are accessed, could stand to be a bit brighter. Make sure to read our buying guide on the best electric road bike.

The 750-watt turbo motor can also hit speeds up to 28 miles per hour, which is plenty fast for most uses.

Though the saddle is ergonomically shaped and larger than many that ship with comparable models, we did find it to be somewhat rigid, though that faded after several hours of use. Additionally, this bike requires a fair bit of assembly, but tools and clearly written instructions are included with purchase. We loved the luminous LED headlight and the backlit display, both of which came in handy during night rides.

Though the removable battery can get you over 30 miles of riding before needing a charge, the included charger does take six or seven hours to complete said charge. Also, the motor is great at acceleration and can handle a heavy load, but only has the capacity to climb at a maximum of 35-degree inclines. We loved the 21-speed Shimano transmission system, which makes for smooth rides even over bumpy terrain, and the well made mechanical disc brakes placed along the front and rear of the bike. This ebike also boasts 26-inch fat tires that are equipped with an anti-slip coating, further helping this bike glide over rough terrain types. The pedals are also of exceptional quality.

Though the 250-watt motor is powerful enough for hills and boasts a 330-pound load capacity, it does max out at 15 miles per hour, so take that into consideration. Though the 250-watt motor can handle heavy loads and is decent at acceleration, it does max out at 15 miles per hour, so take that into consideration. Also, there is no twist throttle on this model, relying exclusively on pedal-assist via the integrated pedals. Best sure to check out our list of the best ebike for hills.

How We Decided

To help narrow down to the above list, we focused primarily on features that enabled these bikes to be used by heavy riders. To that end, we favored bicycles with powerful motors that were certified with the ability to haul large loads and those that featured ultra-comfortable and ergonomically designed saddles.

Battery range was also of paramount importance, so we tended to choose ebikes that came with long-lasting lithium-ion battery packs that could run for at least 25 miles on a single charge. Some bikes boast double that maximum length and many of these batteries can easily be removed, for charging on the go and theft deterrence.

Safety features were important as well. We chose bikes with reliable braking systems, often including hydraulic or mechanical disc brakes, and those with durable aluminum alloy, 6061 aluminum, or carbon steel frames. We also enjoyed features that make night riding more convenient and enjoyable, such as bright LED headlights and backlit displays.

Best Ebike for Heavy Riders Buyer’s Guide

The Most Important Features to Consider

  1. Motor and Load Capacity
Generally speaking, the more powerful the motor the heavier a max load it can handle, the faster it can go, and the easier it can ascend steep hills and traverse rough terrain types. Look for 500 watt or 1000 watt mid-drive motors, if you can afford it, and make sure the bicycle of your choosing can handle a maximum load of at least 300 pounds. This will come in handy even if you are significantly below 300 pounds, in case you want to transport groceries or haul something.
  2. Battery and Range
Battery life is of extreme importance when shopping for an electric bicycle. Look for lithium-ion battery packs made by well-known companies like Samsung, Panasonic, and LG. These batteries are often removable, for convenient charging, and will let you ride for dozens of miles on a single charge. Look into the charger as well, to ensure that it reaches a maximum charge rather quickly.
  3. Safety Features
You are going to want to ensure you complete your rides safely. To that end, make sure the bike you are eyeing features an ultra-durable frame, often made from aluminum alloy, and efficient and stable brakes. Hydraulic and mechanical disc brakes, often made by companies like Tektro, are great at stopping even in wet conditions and on difficult terrain like sand. Other safety features include bright LED headlights and taillights and built-in horns.

Ebike for Heavy Riders FAQs

What bikes are good for heavy riders?

Each of the above electric bikes is great for heavy riders, but if we had to choose just one we’d go with our top pick. The Riese & Müller Superdelite Ebike features a dual battery system and an ultra-powerful electric motor, boasting the best maximum range of all of the bikes reviewed.

Do electric bikes have a weight limit?

Yes. This limit is determined via the power of the electric motor and a number of other metrics, such as materials used during construction. Make sure to read the fine print and buy a bike that allows for your body weight plus an extra 50 to 100 pounds, just in case you want to transport groceries or complete other errands while riding a bike.

Are fat bikes good for heavy riders?

This depends entirely on the manufacturer and the bike itself, but we found during testing that many fat bikes were more than suitable for heavy riders. This is because the large tires offer an ergonomic center of gravity that typically withstand more weight than thinner tires.

Who are the best ebike for heavy rider manufacturers?

We made sure to populate the above list with a number of well-known companies, such as Riese & Müller and Rad Power Bikes. Other great companies that nearly made our list include.
