Microsoft’s Surface Studio is the king of Windows-based all-in-ones. In my book, Apple still rules the roost here, but the Surface Studio is a good competitor for artists who want to draw on their desktop. Now, Lenovo is entering the mix with its Yoga A940 all-in-one. Coming in at more than $1,000 below Microsoft’s Surface Studio price, this could become the go-to all-in-one for artists.
Lenovo didn’t skimp out on specs, either. The Yoga A940 should hold its own against both the Surface Studio and even some models of the iMac, though the iMac Pro still wins in the all-out power department. Lenovo’s Yoga A940 sports some very unique (and awesome) features, however, so keep reading to learn more.
Lenovo Yoga A940 kicks the all-in-one race into high gear
When most people think of an all-in-one, you think of the $500 Best Buy special that you’ve warned your parents not to buy. Generally, all-in-one desktops can feature lower-powered processors than dedicated towers in a similar price range, though the offering of a built-in screen is always nice.
For high-end all-in-one machines, Apple is king. However, Microsoft is attempting to dethrone the reigning champ with its high-end Surface Studio. Both the iMac and Surface Studio are somewhat on the expensive and high-end side. To get a Surface Studio 2, you’d be set back $3,499. A base 27-inch iMac 5K would run you $1,799, yet if you gave it similar specs to the Surface Studio 2 it’d be $3,299 from Apple.
Although we don’t have the base specs of the Yoga A940 quite yet, we do know that it’ll start at $2,349.99 which is quite a bit below Microsoft’s Surface Studio 2. We do know that the Yoga A940 can be spec’d out to have up to an 8th generation Intel Core i7, AMD Radeon RX 560 graphics card, 32GB DDR4 RAM, and up to a 512GB PCIe SSD or 2TB SATA hard drive. This makes it compete with even the high-end iMac 5K and the Surface Studio in terms of specs, but we’re not quite sure what the Yoga A940 will cost in a fully kitted out manner yet.
Designed for productivity and life
The design of the Lenovo Yoga A940 is really what I love the most. The all-in-one can come down to table-level similar to the Surface Studio, making it perfect for drawing. And while the Surface Studio offers the Surface Dial, which needs to be placed on your display to be used, Lenovo built that into the hinge of the Yoga A940 so you wouldn’t lose precious display real estate.
Not only that, but the stylus charges and docks on the right-hand side of the Yoga A940. But that space also has a unique feature built-in: a Qi wireless charge. This is perfect to keep your iPhone or Galaxy device charged while sitting at your desk, and can help clean up extra wireless charging mats from your already cluttered desk.
Lenovo also built a LED light under the display for when you’re working in low-light condition. This is great for those who prefer to work at night as it’ll prevent you from having to keep external light sources on your desk, something that I’m constantly struggling with. Plus, when you’re done working, the keyboard can sit right on top of the base for a clean and clutter-free workspace.
Pricing and availability
The Lenovo Yoga A940 will start at $2,349.99 and is scheduled to be available from Lenovo’s own website and Best Buy in April of 2019. If you’ve been in the market for a high-end all-in-one computer, but wanted to wait and see what was coming, the Lenovo Yoga A940 should give the iMac and Surface Studio a run for their money.
