Smart locks have been as popular as ever at CES 2019, with a variety of new models entering with HomeKit, Alexa, Key by Amazon support and much more. Now we’re getting a look at the latest from Lockly, the Secure Pro, which shakes things up by touting five — count ’em, five — different ways to lock and unlock your front door. Head below to see how it stacks up to the competition.
Lockly isn’t new to the smart deadbolt scene, but the company is nowhere near as well-known as August, Kwikset, Schlage or any of the other big players. It’s hoping to change that with its latest release, which aims to upstage the competition. It boasts an impressive five different ways to control it, making the new Secure Pro Smart Lock one of the most versatile options we’ve seen so far.
Starting out with the most old-school way a smart lock could manage your door, you’ll be able to use a regular old key. Thanks to the built-in touchscreen keypad, you’ll also be able to set up codes to grant access to your home. And as is pretty much the standard nowadays, a companion smartphone app offers control as well.
Both Amazon and Google’s voice assistants will work out of the box with Secure Pro, too. Lockly claims that HomeKit support is in development and will be coming later in 2019. However, it isn’t uncommon for companies to either delay or just outright cancel HomeKit integration. So if HomeKit is a deciding factor for you, I’d be a bit cautious locking in your preorder until there’s some more concrete information on the matter.
Lastly you’ll find a fingerprint scanner, which is one of the more high-tech methods we’ve seen for unlocking your door. Secure Pro will run on AA batteries, which are said to offer around a year of use before needing to be swapped out.
Lockly’s new Secure Pro is currently available for pre-order and will run you $300 for the deadbolt model. Those preferring a latch handleset will have to shell out an additional $30. Both versions come in satin nickel and Venetian bronze finishes, which is pretty standard these days. It’ll be shipping in the next two months, though an exact date has yet to be specified.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Secure Pro’s proposition of five different locking methods will be a hit with customers or not. Variety is certainly a good thing, and in the case with smart homes, having both Alexa and Google Assistant support will go a long way for many.
