Cord-cutters will soon have two new ways to ditch their cable providers thanks to SiliconDust. At CES 2019, the company announced its new Scribe Duo and Servio, which marks the first appearance of built-in DVR functionality in the lineup of HDHomeRun. The tuners were already some of the most popular ways to enjoy content without a cable subscription, but the upcoming models make it even more alluring to bring one of them into your home theater setup. Hit the jump for all of the details.
SiliconDust opted to kick off the trade show by showcasing two of its upcoming tuners. Both the new HDHomeRun Scribe Duo and Servio enter at the forefront of the company’s lineup. Touting DVR support as its main new feature, the Scribe Duo will fetch a $199 price tag. It features a 1TB hard drive for storing your recorded context and dual OTA tuners.
Preorders are set to begin in March, with an official launch in April. It will also include a full year of the HDHomeRun DVR service, which would normally run you $35.

Then there’s Servio, which enters as an add-on box to an existing HDHomeRun tuner. It packs a 2TB hard drive, allowing you to expand the storage on your DVR setup. It can be paired with the new Scribe Duo, or any of HDHomeRun’s existing tuners to add DVR into the mix. It’ll sell for $150 and also includes the free year of DVR.
Incorporating the DVR functionality makes HDHomeRun better suited to take on the competition like Tablo. I’m a huge fan of my HDHomeRun tuner, and the recent announcement only makes the lineup more appealing for cord-cutters.
