Back in August we covered the launch of Kangaroo, a low-cost way smart motion sensor. Now the company is moving away from being based around a single product and aiming to take on the likes of ADT, SimpliSafe and more. Today at CES, Kangaroo has announced it will be expanding its lineup of home security offerings with even more affordable devices.
When we first took a look at Kangaroo, we were impressed by the $30 standalone motion sensor. With the company’s lofty ambitions to take on higher-end security brands is now coming to fruition, we’re getting five new devices to build out the ecosystem.
Four out of the five new products will be launching in the coming months. We’re getting an updated $30 Motion + Entry Sensor, a $60 Siren + Keypad, $30 Climate + Humidity Sensor and finally a $30 Smoke Alarm + CO2 Sensor. All of the devices will retain their standalone nature, though the keypad will have to work in conjunction with one of the other devices.
Unfortunately we’ll have to wait until the second quarter of 2019 to get the last of the new additions. The upcoming indoor and outdoor security cameras will support the usual features like motion alerts, night vision, and cloud storage. But as of now pricing as well as a more specific launch date are up in the air.
It’s great to see that Kangaroo has managed to keep pricing in line with its first product. The new security additions are certainly appealing, and now that there’s an actual lineup of products, can actually compete with ADT and the other companies.
