Apple’s in-house earbuds, AirPods, have largely held the title as the best truly wireless option out there over the last year. But that hasn’t stopped competitors from trying to topple the throne. With CES 2019 slated to kickoff next week in Las Vegas, it’s no surprise that more wireless earbuds are on the way. Next up? The Klipsch T5 True Wireless Headphones, which sport classic matte black designs and a battery case that looks oddly like a Zippo lighter. Slated to arrive in June, these new earbuds aren’t likely to shake up the scene, but rather add to an already crowded lineup. More below.
Klipsch T5 True Wireless Headphones slated for CES
Klipsch is slated to introduce its new T5 True Wireless Headphones at CES in Las Vegas next week. Notable features include up to 24 hours of battery life when the included charger is accounted for. Otherwise, you’ll get around eight hours per charge with the buds alone. Like other truly wireless headphones before it, the T5s utilize Bluetooth and lack any wiring when in-use making them ideal for the gym and other activities.
Now about that stainless steel case. Props to Klipsch for opting to skip the usual plastic design leaned on heavily by most other retailers out there.
That said, this thing looks like a Zippo lighter. If you’re cool with that, this pair of wireless earbuds certainly delivers a nice change of pace from the usual plastic-infused offerings out there.
Natural AirPod Comparison
Like any product in this category, the T5 True Wireless Headphones are going to be compared to AirPods. At $199, they are $40 more than Apple’s in-house earbuds. On design only, I still give the nod to Apple. These new Klipsch buds suffer from the design issue that many others have as well: they look like Frankenstein bolts in your ears. I love that AirPods are slim and streamlined. Early images of the T5s are decidedly not. That said, there are going to be diehard Klipsch fans out there that are willing to pay the premium and find the design iconic rather than bulky.
Klipsch is slated to the release its T5 earbuds in June across North America.
