Robots are becoming part of everyday life. From cleaning robots like Roomba to learning robots like the offerings from Anki, these animatronic creations are becoming a central part of life. Lovot is a newcomer to the space, and its robot is a cute creation that’s built to bring you joy and comfort.
Lovot comes from combining “love” and “robot”, and is created by Tokyo-based Groove X. It’s just over a foot tall, and resembles a child’s toy, with a very high-tech twist.
Lovot Robot brings a cute design and high-tech features
Most robots are more mechanical than lovey, but Lovot changes that. Underneath its skin, Lovot features many sensors that can detect human touch. There’s also a camera on its head that’s used for navigation. There are some wheels underneath of Lovot that allow it to move, and the eyes and arms also can move as well.
Unlike robots like Roomba or even Anki, Lovot isn’t designed to complete big tasks. Groove X even goes as far to say that Lovot “is not a useful robot that will do tasks for human beings.” Lovot does have a lot of technology packed into it, however. It features facial recognition, which the company says “I remember those who loved and those who took care of me, I approached or spoiled that person.”
Lovot also features things like eye contact. It’s a unique feature, described as “As eyes of a creature looks at you while recognizing the face and position of a person and turning his face in that direction.” This robot will also follow you, and thrives off of physical contact with its owners.
This robot can also act as a baby monitor for parents. Since it looks like a child’s toy from the outside, that means it won’t alarm your infant. Plus, with the built-in camera and following mechanisms, Lovot can alert you if something happens to your child.
Lovot can also be dressed to match you, making it great as a personal follower that looks just like its owner. This gives Lovot its own personality that you can customize to your heart’s content.
Lovot pricing and availability
You can reserve Lovot for ¥349,000, or around $3,100 USD. If you want two, it’ll set you back ¥598,000, or around $5,300 USD. Picking up two gives unique abilities. The robots can connect, and according to the website, “If you feel love, you also feel jealousy. It is a story of a robot.” Lovot’s love doesn’t come cheap, but it’s a unique take on personal robots that some might come to enjoy.
