PowerA expands lineup of Nintendo Switch gear w/ new wireless GameCube controller, more

Preorder

Update: the Enhanced Wireless Controllers are now available for preorder at Amazon.

Between new NES-styled Joy-Cons, Pro Controllers imbued with Super Smash Bros. theming, cardboard accessories and more, there are tons of different controller options to pair with your Nintendo Switch. One of the more well-known accessory makers, PowerA, is expanding that roster of gamepads today with two new controllers.

Trying its hand at recreating an old favorite alongside Nintendo’s latest, PowerA has debuted a new GameCube gamepad as well as its own take on the Pro Controller. Head below for all the details.

The first of PowerA’s latest releases take the shape of a fully featured Pro Controller-styled gamepad. The Enhanced Wireless controller has a familiar form-factor as well as a near-identical button layout to Nintendo’s first-party version. You’ll also find Bluetooth compatibility for wireless connectivity alongside motion controls.

The biggest draw for the new controller will certainly be its three reprogrammable buttons. They can be remapped to suit a wide range of actions and offer more customization than your average controller. Another big selling point will likely be the gamepad’s unique color options. There are six different styles to choose from, black white and red as well as Mario, Link and retro Mario colorways.

To go along with its new feature-packed release, PowerA has also debuted a more modern rendition of the Nintendo GameCube controller. Having been released back in 2001, the GameCube’s gamepad has been a go-to for Smash Bros. fans for the better part of two decades. Now PowerA is refreshing the fan-favorite with equally noteworthy features.

Nintendo may already have its own Switch-compatible version of the controller, but it has one flaw: it requires not just a wired connection, but an adapter as well. PowerA has cut the cord and introduced one of the first Bluetooth GameCube controllers. The company hasn’t stopped there though. Another standout feature here is that it includes full motion controls just like Joy-Cons and the Pro Controller.

PowerA’s wireless GameCube controller is also available in five different colorways. I can already tell many will opt for the classic purple, but there’s also black, grey, silver, and gold.

Both of PowerA’s latest releases come stamped with Nintendo’s own seal of approval. So while being stuck with the third-party controller as a kid may have brought some disadvantages, you can expect the same high quality from these officially licensed options as Nintendo’s own products.

Preorders are currently available for both the Enhanced Wireless and Wireless GameCube controllers. Each retail for $49.99 and will be shipping later this year. As of now it is estimated that both will be officially releasing on October 15th, meaning they’ll arrive plenty of time ahead of Smash Bros.’s debut in December.
