Best multi-tools from under $5 from Gerber, Leatherman and more

From $5

Last week, I told you about this really neat multi-tool that I recently received as a gift. I’ve really come to appreciate having this nifty accessory around in a pinch. There’s a wide range of options out there from budget-focused to high-end. Head below for the best ones out there starting at just $5.

When it comes to multi-tools there’s more options than you can imagine over at Amazon. Traditional models from Leatherman and Gerber might be more familiar to most but other brands are making a mark in this area as well with innovative designs.

A few things to consider when looking for a new multi-tool. What type of features to do you want? Most tools come with a knife, but might lack a screw driver or various bits for different scenarios. It’s wise to go with a metal casing, as that will help your investment stand the test of time. One last thing to consider is design. Do you prefer a fold-up style to carry in a pocket or something simpler next to your keys? Now let’s dive into your options.

Gerber Shard Keychain Tool: $4.50

The Gerber Shard Keychain Tool is arguably the simplest on this list. It’s made to go next to your keys, which is perfect if you have trouble hanging on to a loose multi-tool. It has a titanium coating to fight off corrosion and it’s safe for airline travel. Obviously, the bottle opener will come in handy too. Rated 4.4/5 stars by over 2,500 Amazon customers.

Swiss+Tech 6-in-1 Keychain Tool: $10

I’ve owned this particular tool for about 6 years, according to my Amazon history. Thanks to its keychain design, I’ve not lost it yet. It does a number of things well but not any particularly great. As long as you’re in a situation that isn’t too laborsome. It’s a great gift and, frankly, if I’ve had it for six years and haven’t lost it, it must work well. Rated 4.2/5 stars by over 2,100 Amazon customers.

Gerber Suspension Multi-Plier: $27.50

Now we’re starting to get into the more rough-and-tumble tools that can handle more action. This option from Gerber has 12 different tools and weighs under 10-ounces. It also has a stainless steel design to stand up against wear and tear. For the price, you’re not going to do much better from a value perspective than this model. Rated 4.5/5 stars by nearly 2,000 Amazon customers.

Victronix Swiss Army Climber Knife: $31

It wouldn’t be the best multi-tools without the iconic Swiss Army Knife. While it may not have the sleek modern design of some other options on our list, this model has withstood the test of time as a solid purchase through the years. This model has 14 functions including a 2.5-inch blade and a lifetime warranty. Rated 4.7/5 stars.

Leatherman Wingman Multi-tool: $50

If you’re ready to make an investment, then look no further than Leatherman’s offerings. They’ve been in business for decades and are know for including a stellar 25-year warranty. The Wingman model has 14-tools and is made from stainless steel. Rated 4.6/5 stars by 2,400 Amazon reviewers.
