Prime Wardrobe officially exits beta as Amazon opens its fashion service to all

This morning, Amazon has announced that its Prime Wardrobe has officially left beta and is now available for United States shoppers. A Prime membership is required to take advantage of this service that delivers clothing direct to your doorstep. Since first being announced a year ago, Amazon says that “thousands” of items have been ordered.

Making the move to broader availability will hopefully bring this service to more Prime members while simplifying the at-home shopping experience along the way.

Prime Wardrobe arrived in 2017 as Amazon’s answer to the increasing popularity of services like Trunk and Stitch Fix. Obviously, the inherent advantage it has over those competitors is the massive subscribers base to Amazon’s Prime service. Integrating a fashion offering into its existing catalog is a no-brainer.

So how does Prime Wardrobe work? Amazon ditches the stylist approach (see Echo Look for that), and is instead going the DIY route here. While Amazon has grown its fashion offerings significantly in recent years, its focus here is largely on fit. Shopping online can be difficult for a variety of reasons, but in particular, figuring out how various designers size their items can be challenging.

What makes Prime Wardrobe so easy is that any items that don’t fit can be easily returned. Currently, Amazon is offering this service on most of its in-house brands plus a number of popular names in the fashion industry: Levi’s, adidas, Tommy Hilfiger, and more.

Here are a few facts on the first year of Prime Wardrobe, shared from Amazon:

  • Womens’ top ordered items are denim and dresses.
  • Men are filling their boxes with tops, jeans, and casual pants.
  • Amazon private label brands are top-ordered items – Lark & Ro, Daily Ritual, Amazon Essentials, and Goodthreads are top-shopped Amazon brands on Prime Wardrobe.
  • For kids, shoes are the most frequently ordered item on Prime Wardrobe.

You can learn more about Prime Wardrobe on this landing page. It’s easy to get started, simply fill your box with more than three items and enjoy the seven-day trial upon arrival.

Prime Wardrobe is now available without an invitation.

Our most fashionable benefit is now available for all Prime members in the U.S. Customers can fill their Prime Wardrobe cart with eligible styles – from clothes to shoes to accessories, for men, women, kids and babies, try them on at home, and take up to seven days to decide what to keep. Customers will only be charged for the items they keep, and can easily return items that don’t work for free with the re-sealable box and pre-paid label included with their order.

Unsure of what size to order? Order multiple sizes of the same item. Looking for a wardrobe update? Fill the Prime Wardrobe cart with three or more styles and try them on risk-free. Considering the newest trend but unsure it’ll work? It’s easy to try before you buy.
