We are set to kick off E3 2018 tomorrow with the EA showcase event, but as expected, the leaks and announcements are already coming fast. Walmart Canada listed loads of un-announced games a few months ago that led to the official reveal of Rage 2 and now it looks like another title in the accidental leak is a real thing as well.
Avalanche Studios, of Mad Max and Just Cause fame, officially unveiled a brand new IP yesterday known as Generation Zero. The Stranger Things-inspired action game will pit up to 4 players against a mysterious robotic army in the Swedish countryside. But that’s not all Avalanche has coming down the mountains, its long running Just Cause series appears to also be on the way.
After appearing in the Walmart Canada scandal a while back, we were already suspecting something from the Just Cause franchise soon. Now, promotional images for the un-announced Just Cause 4 appeared on Steam last night, further hinting at the existence of the next entry in the Rico Rodriguez saga.
The image certainly doesn’t give us much to go on outside of the fact that the game looks like it will be going up for pre-order soon. We catch a glimpse of what looks like series protagonist Rico Rodriguez and some kind of rainforest thunderstorm setting.
For those unfamiliar, the Just Cause games are essentially open-world sandbox experiences with loads of environmental destruction and some incredible parasailing-meets-skydiving mechanics. The franchise has been leaning on these mechanics for years now so it will be interesting to see what new tricks the folks at Avalanche add in to the mix here if or when Just Cause 4 finally sees the light of day officially.
While nothing is set in stone here, after two leaks and so many of the Walmart listings coming to fruition, it isn’t hard to believe a new Just Cause is on the way. Having said that, Avalanche’s count is up to three now.
The studio is working on Rage 2 with Bethesda, the new Generation Zero IP and Just Cause 4, if this leak rings true. That’s a lot of work and could get tricky spreading resources around, but Generation Zero is likely a ways out still and the studio is just lending a hand on Rage 2 as far as we can tell. It won’t be long before know for sure though.
