LG has released what it’s calling the 4K Laser CineBeam Projector. Initially announced at CES about 6 months ago, it stands out from the competition due to its a unique, portable design that retains a competitive price point.
LG is a well-known brand, but perhaps not the first you would think of when shopping for projectors. Epson, ViewSonic, and Optoma tend to be the first that come to my mind and also seem to be among the most trusted brands to show up in a search for projectors on Amazon. LG expects to emerge into a leader of this market by pairing high-end features with innovative design.
The company touts that its new projector is about half the size of similar models that it is competing with and that it does not sacrifice quality. It’s portable design allows you to take it to any room in your home or even to a different home altogether. A mirrorless l-shaped design gives customers flexible mounting options allowing them to set it on the floor, hang it from the ceiling or even mount it on a wall.
This new model is LG’s brightest yet, clocking in at 2,500 lumens and it supports stunning 4K HDR. LG claims the projector’s screen looks great up to 150-inches in size. A fantastic size that will suit most home theater needs.
“The LG CineBeam 4K Laser Projector is a true game changer in the projector market,” said Tim Alessi, head of home entertainment product marketing at LG Electronics USA. “Portability and versatility combined with 4K technology delivers the ultimate large-screen home cinema experience in a compact size. This projector will lead the way in changing how consumers view 4K content in any room at home.”
LG claims that the two 7W audio speakers deliver “powerful” sound that negates the need for a sound bar or external speakers in most situations. Obviously pairing a sound bar will make it sound better, but it is great to hear that decent audio quality seems to be baked right in.
The projector runs webOS, a platform originally developed by Palm. LG has been using webOS in its smart TVs for many years, so you have likely seen it and perhaps even used it. This means that all the streaming apps you are used to should be available on this projector.
A listing for the LG HU80KA is already showing up at B&H, but LG states that the projector will be available at additional retailers starting this week with a suggested price of $2,999.99.
