If you have a Nintendo Switch, you’ve likely thought about picking up Nintendo’s official Pro Controller. It’s a great accessory, and I seriously love mine. But, not everyone wants to drop $65 on a controller. If you have a PS3, PS4, or even Wii or Wii U, now there’s a way to use those controllers with your Switch easily.
8Bitdo, a well-known accessory manufacturer, recently launched a wireless Bluetooth adapter that works with the Switch, Windows, Mac, and Raspberry Pi. This accessory costs around $20 plus shipping from 8Bitdo’s official Amazon storefront and could be a game changer for many.
If you have controllers you’d like to use on other platforms, this is seriously the accessory for you. 8Bitdo’s latest adapter connects a myriad of controllers to different sources.
This adapter can establish a connection with the Switch Pro Controller, Switch Joy-Con, PS3, PS4, Wiimote, Wii U Pro controller, and other similar Bluetooth offerings.
Once the controller is connected to 8Bitdo’s accessory, it can then pass the controls through to the host operating system.
Currently, you can use 8Bitdo’s adapter with PC, Mac, Raspberry Pi, Switch, and more. And, because it’s Bluetooth based, there is little to no lag, giving you a native experience.
The biggest benefit here isn’t that you can avoid buying a Switch Pro Controller, but it gives you true options. Some people prefer the feel of a PS4 controller to the Switch Pro Controller or vice versa. Using controllers on PC has always been a little hard depending on your setup, so this really can help smooth your experience out.
I really love the feel of the Switch Pro Controller personally, so being able to use that controller on my PC or Mac while playing games like Rocket League, Skyrim, or similar would be super awesome.
With the ability to update the software on the adapter, that means 8Bitdo can easily push out compatibility patches and bug fixes to the adapter, making your experience even better than when it started.
8Bitdo also designed it with a unique Super Mario block style. I love this as it’s retro, quirky, and unique. This adapter won’t blend in with normal black or white Bluetooth dongles, and that’s awesome.
When used with the Nintendo Switch, it’s even cooler, in my opinion. You’ll have a Super Mario block sticking out from your Nintendo console, and it’ll actually serve a super useful function!
At a current cost of $19.99 with additional shipping (varies based on location), this adapter is way more budget-friendly than a costly Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. The added bonus of giving you the ability to use several controllers with Switch or other platforms just adds to the value.
