We first told you last summer about a crowdfunded kit from Sony called KOOV for kids. These new kits teach kids all about building and operating robots using colorful building blocks. Well, after a very successful campaign, Sony is now offering up a new kit for educators to use at schools. It’s still called KOOV, but the educator kits are specially designed for learning in a hands-on classroom environment.
The latest KOOV kits are designed for kids eight years and older and allow children to learn core concepts in robotics, science, math and engineering (STEAM) that will prepare them for a future in a technology related field.
Once kids learn the basic concepts, there are more complex robots they can start building and operating. Sony says that children are basically only limited by what they can imagine with many different combinations to build from.
The new educator set can be used with up to five students at a time, and in the classroom, kids can work independently or in a group setting to build their robots.
Teachers and parents will be able follow the included lesson plans to guide each child’s work and there’s even progress reports that come included with each kit. Sony said that these lesson plans have over 30 hours of activities to be used in the classroom.

KOOV is a dynamic educational tool to help pave the road for tomorrow’s creative geniuses!
Each kit comes with over 300 building blocks and accessories. There’s also motors, LED flashing lights and more gizmos to keep kids entertained and learning. The new educator kit also gives you access to the KOOV app which has even more exercises and additional content to enjoy.
The STEAM concepts that KOOV primarily focuses on are coding and design. The app also has “Robot Recipes” that provide easy step-by-step instructions for building even more creations and inspiring children to build from scratch.
You may be wondering to yourself why kids learning about robotics is so important. Well, it’s been reported that more than half of kids entering primary school today will work in jobs that do not even exist yet. That’s a lot of new jobs and the study also reported that there will be 4.4 million computer and IT jobs in the United States by 2024 alone.
Starting today you can pre-order KOOV from Sony’s website and expect it to be shipped in March of this year.
