Magilight lets you easily create photographic light paintings

If you’re a photographer that’s always on the hunt for that next great shot, you may be interested in light painting as a new art form. It typically involves moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph. It sounds easy enough, but it really isn’t. There are a bunch of different tools and accessories and of course patience needed to truly master this technique.

A start-up company out of New York has created a new “painting” light stick that they hope will transform the art for beginners and experts alike. It’s currently getting funded on Indiegogo with much success. With over a month left to go in its campaign, it has already reached more than double its goal of $30,000.

They call it Magilight and it allows photographers of any skill level to create stunning photographs, animations, backgrounds and more. It offers more effects than just about any other light painting stick ever developed.

The stick has more than 15 million colors that can be displayed and it has 44 LED light bulbs as well. You can even mount it to the back of a drone to create diverse aerial shots, thanks to the mounting screw hole at its base. It also has a barrel rotator, so you can create and print perfect geometric shapes with little effort.

When you want to create your enhanced image, you’ll just need to follow these easy-to-do steps. First, just find a picture you want to use with the Magilight. Then put that image in the TF slot on the Magilight. Make sure to set your camera to take a long exposure. Then set the image on the Magilight, press the shutter on your camera and then wave the Magilight to prouduce the image. That’s how it’s done.
