We’ve unfortunately all been there before at one time or another. It’s either an over air conditioned building or an uncomfortably hot room where you’re a little too close quartered. What if you could just change the temperature for yourself? A group of MIT-trained scientists hope to do just that with their new Kickstarter funded wearable called Embr Wave. It works simply with a press of a button to change how hot or cold you feel at any given moment making you more comfortable.
The Embr Wave wearable provides “an instant shot of thermal relief” by directly cooling or warming the temperature sensitive skin on your wrist. It can emulate the feeling you get when you place an ice cube on your skin during those hot summer months. Or if you feel a chill, it can give you the sensation of placing your hands in front of a fireplace on a winter day. So why is this so important? The truth of the matter is we all experience temperature differently and there isn’t always a way to control the temperature outside or in public places. So far all those uncomfortable times Embr Wave can finally give you control to immediately feel better at the press of a button.
The technology behind it is pretty simple. It’s based on the key insight that when you warm up or cool down one area of your body you can change your comfort level all over without necessarily changing your core body temperature. Just like when you get your socks wet and it’s enough to make your entire body feel cold or when you grip a hot mug of coffee on a cold day is enough to make you feel warmer. Since your body is hardwired to respond this way to temperature, this product is able to work at a moment’s notice.
The inventors of Embr Wave also promise this wearable is very easy to have on for most people. You can wear it on the inside or the outside of your wrist and the magnetic clasp-on band lets you adjust it so it’s snug and comfortable for you.
With 29 days left in its campaign, the Embr Wave wearable has already met its fundraising goal of $100,000. If you would like to get one on your wrist a pledge of $199 will get it to you from its early bird special. That’s 33% off the future retail price and the lowest you can get it for. Shipping is estimated to begin in September of next year.
