Duo is the AI-infused Smart Mirror that everyone needs to start their day

Duo is a part mirror, all computer AI device that at first look appears to be a simple 27-inch reflective surface. However, it has the ability to respond to commands and has built-in programs to assist you with your daily tasks. In addition to speaking to it, you can also touch it to play music, stream videos, control lights, play games, check the weather and basically experience your home like never before.

The mirror-based AI assistant is called ‘Albert’ and you can get his attention with a verbal command or use of the touchscreen. Much like Iron Man’s ‘Jarvis’, ‘Albert’ the AI companion lives inside Duo and lets you control your smart home devices with your voice. The AI mirror is customizable in that you can change the gender, the accent and its name. There are many other apps that you can download or buy from the native app store and it runs along with any smartphone. You can connect and control other smart devices around the house or simply use Duo as an all-purpose entertainment hub.

Albert operates from within the thin stealthy casing packed with other core electronics. The mirror computer weighs in at eight pounds, so you can easily mount the 27-inch 1080p display on just about any wall. Also, it’s designed to blend into any environment when not in use. Additional tech specs include:

  • 27” full-HD 1080p display
  • 27″ 5-point multi-touch reflective surface
  • Built-in microphone & speaker (connecting to separate Bluetooth speaker recommended)
  • Built-in Wi-fi, Bluetooth
  • Duo Core chip (onboard processor)
  • HomeOS including Albert Engine
  • Native apps including Duo Music, Duo News, Duo App Store

What about leaving your fingerprints on the mirror you say? Duo’s reflective surface will be treated with a coat of anti-fingerprint (oleophobic) before it is shipped. The Duo team also suggests that you can use any regular cleaning liquid and cloth to clean the surface.

Duo is a New York City based AI company founded by Jack Kim. Kim also recently launched Ember Labs, a personal laboratory dedicated to supporting innovative software and hardware businesses. The Duo team has even developed a web-based HomeOS SDK for developers to build their own apps to be used on the platform.

You can pre-order Duo at an early bird price of $399, which is $200 off the final recommended retail price. The Duo team is aiming to ship the smart display in October 2017. Developers can receive a pre-production Duo in June 2017.
