With a collapsible design and Bosch engine, this upcoming eBike has looks and power to match

Tern’s newest creation, the Electron e-Bike is powered by Bosch’s Active motor system. It is being touted as “the most powerful and smallest folding e-bike ever.” Lofty claims. So is it true? Head below to find out how Electron is bringing more power to an ever-expanding product category.

Electric bikes are growing in popularity, particularly in urban areas of the United States. The ability to travel (fairly) quickly without hopping on the subway or train is very appealing to non-car owners. Elektron expands upon the success of these products by focusing on two key areas: footprint and power.

By using a foldable design, this e-bike is able to shrink itself down when not in use. This is especially important to city dwellers for storage during the workday or if they happen to hop on a train. According to the specs, this bicycle can be collapsed in under 10-seconds thanks to a quick-release system.

Tern is the latest company to integrate Bosch’s Active motor system into a bicycle. The 400Wh battery combined with a powerful drivetrain promises up to 100km of range. Coupled with a Deore disc brake system and add-ons like a 150-lumen headlight and fenders, Elektron is well on its way to being a viable option. This bike also has one of the most attractive designs that we’ve seen recently. The matte black finish and varying shades of black/gray really stand out.

Another notable piece is the on-board display and gear system. A small panel sits on the handlebars that provides information about speed, distance traveled, charge remaining and more. Two large plus and minus buttons control your gear levels while in use.

The Tern Elektron is set to hit Kickstarter in October with a Spring 2017 delivery date if all goes to plan. It is set to carry a $3,500 price tag, which is significantly more than other eBikes that we’ve featured. That said, those models did not feature the same level of power.
