We have already gone over the best iOS releases for the month and now it’s time to take a look at the rest of the gaming world, more specifically, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. As usual, the first half the summer was fairly dead for console game releases, but as we push through August, we are starting to see some highly anticipated titles on the horizon.
Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on the new Deus Ex title, and it won’t be long now before the mysteries of No Man’s Sky start to unfold across the forums. EA is launching one of its yearly sports franchises this month and the latest Metroid title will be hitting store shelves. Head below for more details on our picks for the top console releases of the month:
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – Aug. 29th
Stoked for this one folks. Human Revolution was a fantastic game set in a dark futuristic world ridden with human augmentation and illuminati conspiracy. Sounds amazing right? It was and it looks like Eidos Montreal has taken the next entry in the series to another level with interesting new augmentations for Adam Jensen and a new story to unfurl.
Along with what looks like some awesome new locations, I’m very interested to see what the team has done with the player decision mechanics in this one. The Deus Ex franchise has been a pioneer of “choice and consequence” gameplay in the AAA gaming space for a while, so here’s to hoping Mankind Divided takes it to the next level.
Oh and that wild, cybernetic looking Breach mode looks like it could offer some interesting side content/combat to break-up or extend the main experience.
PS4/Xbox One: Deus Ex Mankind Divided: $60 or $47.99 for Prime members
No Man’s Sky – Aug. 9th
No Man’s Sky might be one of the most anticipated titles of the year, not to mention the most mysterious. Very little has been divulged about the overall story and plot that may or may not be littered through the millions of discoverable planets and stars in the game. This is a game mostly about exploration that allows players to get in their space ship and literally take-off from a planet’s surface at will. And then head into space where there are millions upon millions of entirely unique planets to explore.
Sounds impossible right? I know, but there is definitely some fancy tech going on the background that’s probably worth experiencing even if you aren’t completely sold on the gameplay itself. There is also a sort-of interesting online element to the experience as well, allowing players to share their adventures and discoveries with other players.
PS4/Xbox One: No Man’s Sky: $60 or $47.99 for Prime members

Madden NFL 17 – Aug. 23rd
Well what can you say about the Madden NFL series. It has owned football in gaming for a long time, and rightfully so. This year EA is introducing the usual visual upgrades along with Play The Moment mode allowing players to experience just the most crucial and exciting moments in a game.
If Microsoft’s new Xbox One S interests you, that Madden NFL 17 bundle looks pretty nice too.
PS4/Xbox One/360/PS3: Madden NFL 17: $60 or $47.99 for Prime members
Resident Evil 4 HD– Aug. 30th
While this one already made its HD debut on PC, it is nice to see these games brought to the new era consoles with a bit of a graphical and mechanical enhancement. Sometimes titles can get lost in the console generations, with gamers constantly trading up for the newest gear and titles. So I, for one, will enjoy having this one on my PS4 the next time Leon and Wesker cross my mind, especially for $20. This was one of the best games in the series in my opinion and it got near perfect review scores from a number of major outlets when it released back in 2005.
Resident Evil 4 arrives on PlayStation 4 in full 1080p HD with an increased frame rate. This revolutionary masterpiece represented a turning point for the series as it brought the gameplay to a third-person over-the-shoulder perspective for the first time.
PS4/Xbox One: Resident Evil 4 Remaster: $20 or $15.99 for Prime members
Metroid Prime: Federation Force – Aug. 19
This might not be the Metroid game long-time fans of the series have been waiting for, but it will be nice to get a new entry in the series for 3DS. Now it doesn’t look like we will be a getting much of the classic-Metroid experience here, but the co-op aspects look like they could be fun. Despite some of the negative energy floating around the internet on this one, and even without the series long-running heroine (Samus Aran), it’s definitely worth a shot for those interested in what looks to be an extension of the Metroid mythos.
Nintendo 3DS: Metroid Prime: Federation Force: $40 or $32 for Prime members
