D-Link’s new affordable IP cameras will make you think twice about buying a Nest Cam

D-Link has announced two new additions to its lineup of IP cameras. This move comes as the popular networking maker aims to bring more affordable options to consumers. With a price that is significantly less than Nest Cam, these two devices have a chance to be very attractive for someone looking to add surveillance and save some cash in the process.

One of the key features of the new DCS-936L is a built-in signal locator that helps users find the ideal placement for a reliable Wi-Fi connection. This should help to take the guesswork out of an installation process that can be rather frustrating. The 936L has HD quality 720p video and can record up to 128GB worth of footage on a microSDXC card. Built-in infrared lights add night vision to the mix, which is particularly handy when you’re away from home or the office.

Switching over to the DSC-5030L, this new camera has a built-in motor that allows for full pan and tilt capabilities directly from your smartphone. Users will be able to see 340-degrees side-to-side and 110-degrees top to bottom. D-Link hopes that this will help to eliminate frustrating blind spots that can occur. Additional features include 720p HD video, local recording (128GB) and motion/sound detection.

Here’s what Carissa Blegen, surveillance product line manager at D-Link, had to say:

“Our newest set of Wi-Fi Cameras provide crisp 720p video clarity and free local recording with expanded storage capabilities, allowing users to protect more of what they love. With motion and sound detection alerts, night vision, as well as remote viewing through our free mydlink Lite app, the DCS-936L and DCS-5030L give homeowners an affordable and reliable DIY security solution.”

The smaller 936L is available for purchase direct from D-Link for $79.99, while the larger 5030L is on sale at Amazon for $139.99.
