Immersit has a plan to bring an IMAX-like experience to your home theater for a fraction of the cost. The company just launched a new Kickstarter project in an attempt to sell its new 4D motion motion sim for couches. While the idea seems a little crazy, the execution appears to be on point.
By adding four motorized lifts to each corner of your couch, a brain can augment your seat in accordance with the movie or game on the screen. You have to see it action to really appreciate what’s happening here. Head below for a full demo video.
The four hydraulic supports sit in each corner and are able recreate “up to a thousand different motions.” That includes lifts, rotations, and vibrating rumbles for those intense action scenes. Immersit bills its system as “plug-and-play” with a simple design that gets right to the fun.
To get started, simply plug the brain into any A/V device, such as a game console, receiver or Blu-ray player. Immersit has already pre-programmed a number of popular films to be compatible with the system. But it’s not limited to those movies either, the brain can replicate this experience across any source if needed.
Immersit’s four “dynamic pads” sit under each corner of your chair or sofa and is capable of supporting loads up to 1,000 pounds. The “brain” interprets the audio from a source and tells the “heart”, which is connected to the pads, exactly how to perform. Each piece of the system is design to be hidden beneath your furniture or stacked with existing A/V equipment so it’s hardly noticeable.
Another piece of the puzzle is Immersit’s compatibility with popular VR kits like Oculus Rift. The idea is that by combining the two devices, a home theater experience unlike ever before could be created. We’ve seen other reports from writers that have actually demoed the software say that VR is the most immersive experience with this product.
Immersit launched on Kickstarter just a few days ago and has raised nearly 2/3 of its goal. With 32 days remaining, a pledge of $728 will deliver a kit by the end of the year if all goes to plan.
