This unofficial Android-connected amiibo reader lets players store, share & play characters they don’t own

The new amiiqo is a small Android-connected disc that allows users to store and share their amiibo collections. Pre-loaded with 10 characters, the small device will essentially act in place of the actual figurine once its data has been transferred from the companion Android app. Nintendo isn’t going to be happy about this:

The system can store up to 200 figures, no matter whether they have been leveled up or not. The amiiqo creators say characters can be saved in their brand new, unplayed state “ but also from a amiibo that was already leveled up or with power-ups, making it a super effective cheat system.”

Judging by the wording on the product page, it seems to indicate that these saved character files might be able to be shared between amiiqo users. While you’ll miss out on all the fun of actually owning the physical figure, this would essentially let anyone make use of characters they don’t actually own.

However, Nintendo has already caught wind of the new amiiqo reader sharing system it never made. There’s no telling how long amiiqo will stay a float, but by the sounds of it, not long.

The amiiqo is up for pre-order right now for about $73 USD, and is apparently set to ship on Friday. But you are purchasing at your own risk here, as Nintendo could (will more than likely) shut this whole thing down any day now.
