Molson and Google team up on voice activated fridge that dispenses free beer

Molson, the well-known Canadian beer company is teaming up with Google on a rather interesting new marketing project. Leveraging Google’s translation/speech recognition software, Molson has built a special, one-of-a-kind fridge that only opens when you say just the right thing to it. The fridge isn’t for sale or mass produced, instead it will be placed out in public and filled with free beer for the taking. However, it’ll be a little more difficult than “Open Sesame” to get your hands on it:

It is similar to a previous campaign which saw Molson place (non-Google equipped) special fridges in select European cities that would distribute free, alcoholic refreshments to anyone with a valid Canadian passport. This time around, you’ll have to sweet talk the machine before it dishes up the goods.

It requires people to say the words “I am Canadian” in 6 different languages before the fridge door swings open. You’ll need 6 different individuals, so that multi-lingual professor friend of yours isn’t going to do the trick. As you can see in the behind-the-scenes video above, it took dozens of people months of work to complete the fridge.

The campaign will coincide with Canada Day (like Independence Day for Canucks) and the 2015 PanAm Games that are being hosted there. Torontonians and visitors to the city will have a chance to see the special, voice activated beverage cooler out in the wild sometime next month during the games.
