We’ve all been there, having just managed to fall asleep with our headphones on and we roll over only to feel hard plastic jabbing into your head. Turns out Dr. Dre didn’t think about sleeping when designing those cans. But what if there was an option that wrapped comfortably around your ears for sleeping?
Even better, what if there were headphones that adjusted the volume and drowned out the sound around you based on your sleeping habits? Now we’re talking. The Kokoon EEG Bluetooth headphones do all that and more…
These slim headphones are wrapped in Kokoon’s patented “FlexMould Comfort System” which ensconces the device and the listeners ears in a soft material. As users sleep, the headphones breathe and adjust allowing warmer temperatures to exit, cooling the listener. All of the technology is stored within the headphones, making for a slim design that is unobtrusive during sleep. Kokoon has partnered with Onkyo on the audio side of things to deliver a wireless Bluetooth listening experience.
Design aside, the technology behind Kokoon is what really caught our eyes. These headphones have a built-in EEG, that monitors and tracks the tiny amount of voltage that our brains produce as we fall asleep. The headphones are able to communicate with the companion smartphone app to make sense of the data that it is collecting. As the listener falls asleep, the headphones make adjustments and lowering the volume while increasing noise cancellation.
Over time, the Kokoon gets smarter and provides a custom listening and sleeping experience based on prior use. Much like other apps on iOS, Kokoon delivers a sleep rating based on the quality of your rest, in hopes of improving it based on data that it has collected.
The Kokoon EEG Bluetooth Headphones have currently raised $839,500, well surpassing its goal of $100,000 with 20 days remaining. There is still time to secure a pair of Kokoon’s, a pledge of $189 will deliver a set next February.
