The Nuimo Smart Home Interface aims to take control of your SONOS, lighting and other IoT devices

With so many Internet of Things (IoT) devices dominating our homes, the ability to control them all continues to be a journey of trial and error. We continue to hear that Apple’s HomeKit is coming down the pipeline but its ultimate usefulness has yet to be seen. In the meantime, there is a Kickstarter project called Nuimo that plans on bringing all of the controls for SONOS, Philips Hue and others typically found in your iPhone to a physical knob and display. It has already blown past its goal in just a few days…

The Nuimo Smart Home Interface is a physical knob mounted to your wall that can also be detached from the dock to move about your home as needed. It has a nest-like design with a simple LED matrix display. The analog knob rotates to activate different services and adjust settings as needed. Built around Bluetooth 4.0, the Nuimo interacts with a variety of services and is managed via the iOS app. At this time, over 30 services have signed up for the open source platform, including SONOS, Philips Hue, Nest and WeMo.

It also has gesture support, allowing users to control a variety of features as need. For example, adjusting volume or skipping a song is handled by a simple swipe over the Nuimo. Each service has a unique set of gesture controls designed by the developers themselves. The open source platform and developer kit allows for many different possibilities going forward. Nuimo includes a built-in rechargeable battery that is stated to last about four months.

Nuimo has raised over $80,000 in a few days, well ahead of the $60,000 needed to bring the project to production. A pledge of $122 will get you a Nuimo in either black or white, with delivery in October. For $100 more you can pick up a limited edition gold model.
