IKEA shares details on its new wireless charging furniture, add-ons and iPhone cases

Update (5/26 11:00am): IKEA’s new wireless charging furniture and accessories are now available for purchase in-store and online.

After months of rumors circulating, IKEA has officially taken the cover off its new line of wireless charging solutions for select smartphones, including iPhone. The popular home goods company has developed multiple products that integrate a power supply directly into its furniture.

IKEA has also created a system to bring wireless charging into existing furniture as well…

There are two products IKEA will be releasing designed to be added into any furniture. The Jyssen is a small puck that is a few inches tall and will retail for $30. It is designed to be slipped into IKEA’s cord management holes on desks and entertainment systems. If you’d like to add the Jyssen charger to your own furniture, IKEA also has a $5 drill bit available that will cut a perfectly sized hole.

Mutli-device solutions are also available as well: the Nordmärke is a three wide charger for $65, also available in singles for $28. These larger puck like solutions are designed to sit atop furniture rather than recessed into the surface. Nordmärke could be a solid portable solution as well.

IKEA also announced a number of new pieces of furniture that are already equipped with wireless charging. You’ll find nightstands, coffee tables and a pretty cool table light as well. All of these offer a built-in power supply in varying forms although some seem more practical than others.

So what if your phone does not support wireless charging? IKEA will be offering cases that add this feature for both iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy. Cases will range in price from $15-$25, with the iPhone 6 model coming in at the top. IKEA has stated that all of these products can be expected in “late Spring”, so we’d plan on them being in store before long.
