The next major Nintendo Switch 2 release is quickly approaching with the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond set to land early next month. Now just under 3 weeks from launch, and just after Nintendo unleashed the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – Survive trailer we featured, a brand new Metroid Prime 4 Overview trailer has just released on the Nintendo Today! App – we are assuming it will be up on its YouTube and X channels very soon (if it isn’t already).
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is certainly one of the most highly-anticipated Switch 2 releases of the holiday season. It is effectively Switch 2’s big holiday release after all, but this is one we have been waiting a very long time for – it was first revealed as a Switch game before the Switch 2 was even made official.
Today’s new Metroid Prime 4: Beyond overview trailer is quite a lengthy one, and unless Nintendo plans to serves up the dedicated Nintendo Direct for Samus’ new adventure we have hoped for at some point in the next few weeks, this might be the last long look at the new game before the launch trailer.
We are getting a taste at the story and plot, a break down of various locales in the game that are connected via an open desert space known as Sol Valley, interspersed with gameplay footage. From there we are getting some details on Samus’ gear, a look at some new enemies, weapons, navigational mechanics, and more.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond begins with an attack on the Galactic Federation UTO Research Center by Samus’ sworn archrival Sylux. Samus answers the distress call and soon becomes entangled in an unexpected disaster. Awakening on the unknown planet of Viewros, she must fight to survive and escape.
Viewros is home to ferocious beasts, and diverse locales – including lush jungles, a factory beset with storms, a research lab frozen in ice and a facility nestled in a volcano— each connected by a central desert called Sol Valley. Employ tools like the Scan Visor and Samus’ core abilities – like the Power Beam, Missiles, form-altering Morph Ball and more – to gather information, fight, access new areas and find a way forward. Samus will also receive mysterious Psychic Abilities that enable her to manipulate energy, activate machinery, and more.
Freely traverse the roadless desert of Sol Valley on Vi-O-La, a vehicle left behind by an ancient civilization. Use Vi-O-La to counter attacks from approaching enemies, and smash crystals at high-speed to convert them into the energy you’ll need on your adventure. Plus, depending on her location, Samus can instantly summon and ride Vi-O-La.
The trailer runs for nearly 8 minutes and you can check it out on the official Nintendo Today! app, but, again, we are very much expecting it to get uploaded to the official Nintendo YouTube channel at any moment:
