IDrive’s new unlimited plan may be the best mobile backup solution for iOS/Android users

Last time we checked in with IDrive it was readying a new 100GB cloud storage plan for just $0.99. Now, IDrive is set to offer an unlimited mobile backup of up to five devices for $4.99/year, covering iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices.

Learn more, including how IDrive compares to the competition below:

This new service from IDrive differentiates itself from other backup offerings giving its users greater control over their personal data. Particularly, that IDrive allows its own users to create a custom key that grants access to your account, in addition to other features such as keeping the previous 30 versions of every file you back up and 24/7 customer support. User data will be backed up via 256-bit AES encryption, with the optional aforementioned user-defined passkey.

IDrive operates via an app for each mobile platform, in which the user can control what files and information that they’d like to be backed up. Additionally, the ability to access your data across multiple platforms is also notable for Android phone users that also have an iPad. Additionally, you can fully restore your data from an iOS device to a new Android or Windows Phone device, and vice versa. The Android app has been installed on nearly 500,000 devices with an average rating of 4.2/5 stars from over 2,800 reviewers, while the iOS app has a 3/5 star rating from nearly 250 users.

In comparison, iCloud will offer you 20GB for $.99/month up to 1TB for $19.99, while Dropbox comes in at $9.99/month for 1TB. While IDrive imposes a five mobile device limit, iCloud can carry up to 10 devices and Dropbox has no limitations. They all obviously offer a different solution, depending on the needs of the user. Dropbox cannot seamlessly handle contacts and other phone data like iCloud and IDrive can, but it certainly offers the most flexibility across platforms. The beauty of iCloud is its integration into iOS and now Mac devices. The decision really does lie in the hands of the user, drop us a comment below and tell us how you are currently handling your backups.

IDrive’s latest offering will be available starting tomorrow, November 3rd via in-app purchase for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices.
