Nintendo has now confirmed its big Switch 2 holiday game release – here’s everything you need to know

Today’s Nintendo Direct is a wrap and it has now announced the release date for its big holiday Switch 2 release – Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. This is one of those games we knew about in an official capacity well before Switch 2 was even a thing, but it was also one of the more anticipated Switch 2 titles we knew about that didn’t have a release date…until now.

Today’s Nintendo Direct was a good one – loads of new games, a complete suite of Mario 40th anniversary releases, and perhaps most importantly for Switch 2 games, the release date for the new Metroid game.

Nintendo has officially announced the new Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 bundle release with 4K support on Switch 2 and a launch date this October, as well as the new Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book as part of the 40th anniversary celebration, but Samus is back and we know now exactly when you’ll get to ride that new technologically advanced bike Nintendo debuted today.

After the better part of year of waiting, we now know Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will release on Switch and Switch 2 come December 4, 2025. Nintendo has given Samus its big holiday release slot this year, as some predicted and we very much hoped for.

Today Ninteod unleashed a new trailer for the game, giving us another look at the mysterious planet Viewros Samus finds herself on after “an unexpected accident.” Alongside her newfound psychic abilities we got a good look at in the last trailer/gameplay demos, Nintendo also debuted the Vi-O-La – Samus’ technologically advanced bike used to “traverse and explore the environment.”

Samus is targeted by the deadly sharpshooter Sylux, and lands on Viewros in the aftermath of their clash. She’ll need all her tools and abilities, including her new technologically-advanced bike Vi-O-La, to survive and escape.

On top of that, Nintendo revealed three new Metroid Prime 4: Beyond amiibo as well – Samus (Metroid Prime 4), Samus & Vi-O-La (Metroid Prime 4), and the “enigmatic bounty hunter Sylux (Metroid Prime 4),” all of which will release on November 6. Details about what they actually do in game “will be announced at a later date.”

And lastly, the Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective book “is releasing Oct. 28, featuring concept drawings and behind-the-scenes illustrations from Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Metroid Prime Remastered, along with exclusive commentary from Producer Kensuke Tanabe and Retro Studios. Available for pre-purchase beginning today at select retailers.”
