New limited edition Astro Bot Joyful DualSense now available for purchase

Update 9/12: The new ASTRO BOT Joyful Limited Edition DualSense controller is now available for purchase at Walmart and Target, among others.

Update 9/12: Pre-orders for the new Astro Bot Joyful edition DualSense will go live this morning at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. PT directly from Sony, and we are expecting to see “participating” retailers with units as well. You’ll want to be ready ahead of the official start time if you’re going with direct.playstation.com – the virtual queue tends to open ahead of time.

Back in June Sony officially revealed a new edition of its beloved and equally as adorable Astro Bot DualSense controller. We got our first look at the new controller a few months back, but Sony has announced when you’ll actually be able to get your hands on one.

The previous edition released in mid 2024, and while the new one does look a whole lot like the original, there is a new updated version of the Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense wireless controller and you’ll be able to grab one very soon.

Sony took to its official X account today – there is no official PlayStation Blog post as of yet – to announce that Astro Bot is returning “with a new delightful twist” when the limited edition Astro Bot Joyful DualSense launches on October 30.

Today’s announcement also mentions that pre-orders for the new gamepad will go live starting on September 12 at 10 a.m. local time via http://direct.playstation.com and participating retailers.”

So what’s different this time around? Well, outside of the fact that you might actually be able to get the new one – the previous model can be hard to come by these days – it’s hard to say for sure outside the “joyful” eyes. The the dramatization video accompanying today’s announcement is just that (it doesn’t actual animate if it’s anything like the last one), but it mostly looks like there might be a slight aesthetic redesign here and an all-new facial expression front and center.

Here’s a look at the previous model as a reminder:
