Game price:
USD $19.99 | EUR €19.99 | JPY ¥2300
After many years of waiting, we are now only 5 days away from the release of the most highly-anticipated indie game (maybe ever) – Hollow Knight: Silksong. We finally know when the game will launch and even got a new trailer recently with a decent look at the game, but we still don’t know the price of it – unless a recent GameStop listing that surfaced is be to believed.
GameStop recently put up a pre-order listing for a digital copy of Hollow Knight: Silksong on Nintendo Switch at just $19.99. This listing has since been taken down, suggesting someone pushed the button too soon or there was some kind of mistake on the price – it appears folks tried to checkout while it was still “live” but the GameStop site would not let them.
This is news for a couple reasons: Team Cherry hasn’t said anything about pre-order, but rather just that the game will be playable day one on Game Pass and that it will be available for purchase on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox, Sony PlayStation 4, Sony PlayStation 5, GoG and Humble Bundle.
Could one of the most highly-anticipated titles of the year actually only cost $19.99?

This listing was for the Switch version, and not Switch 2, by the looks of it and it was for a digital copy, does this explain it?
Well not really, chances are there will be a some sort of boxed copy at some point, but it appears Silksong will be a digital release on all platforms, at least on day 1 – September 4, 2025.
When the original Hollow Knight released back in 2017 it was listed at $14.99, which makes sense considering it was a indie game from a tiny, mostly unknown entity at the time. But that is no longer the case – since then Team Cherry has sold truckloads of copies, has one of the most highly-anticipated multi-platform games in the holster, one of the most wishlisted Steam games ever, and one serious blockbuster on its hands now.
The studio is known for being player-first, and probably could have charged $20 or more for the first game, but they could also charge more than double the price of the recent GameStop listing for Silksong. The industry is trending more pricey now for AAA titles, as you already know.
Either Team Cherry is being incredibly generous here – $20 hardly accounts for natural inflation – or GameStop just jumped the gun with the wrong number. Either way, we will be exploring the depths of the fallen insect kingdom of Pharloom very soon, and it, within reason, probably doesn’t matter how much Team Cherry charges – this thing is going to move some units.
