Gearbox just officially announced the Switch 2 release date for Borderlands 4

While it might be all about Pokémon today and the new Pokémon Legends Z-A Switch 2 bundle, one of the more major upcoming third-party titles finally has a release date. We already knew Borderlands 4 was inbound for all major consoles this fall, and now we know exactly when it will land on Switch 2.

Just before a lengthy gameplay demo as part of a dedicated State of Play showcase for PlayStation 5, console gamers on other platforms already knew the game’s release date was actually moved up to September 12 on PlayStation 5, but the Switch 2 launch was still up in the air…until today.

Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford took to X today in video form and right near the end in dramatic fashion, Pitchford officially announced Borderlands 4 will release on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3, 2025.

So while Switch 2 gamers will have to wait an extra few weeks for it to land on Nintendo’s next-generation console, it is indeed releasing shortly thereafter in what is quickly starting to become a busy launch season across the home console space (as is usually the case) and quite possibly for Switch 2 as well – Pokémon Legends Z-A is landing right around the and we presume Metroid Prime 4 will as well.

This is one more announcement that has surfaced outside of the rumored upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, but there are still openly of first- and third-party titles we are waiting for firm dates on – all of them are detailed for you in our recent feature right here
