Today we are taking a look at what some might consider a more affordable Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller alternative, the HORIPAD Turbo for Nintendo Switch 2. While I was a fan of the original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and our early hands-on impressions of the latest model are favorable, it is in many ways just a regular controller for Switch 2, an official one sure, but for the most part just your average gamepad that delivers a more traditional feel, and one that will cost you $85 to pre-order.
HORI’s Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller alternative and more
While the new HORIPAD Turbo for Nintendo Switch 2 is not a wireless gamepad, it will deliver that more traditional vibe alongside some extra bells and whistles at a far less expensive $49.99 – it is now up for sale with Amazon’s pre-order guarantee ahead of its release on June 16. This means you’ll be charged the lowest price it drops to between now and then no matter what you lock it in for now.
While the wired setup is going to be a turn off for some folks and understandably so, considering how pricey the console and games are I have been looking around for some notable alternatives to save some cash on the “pro” controller I’m after, and this officially licensed model from HORI caught my eye.
As anyone who has followed our gaming coverage will know, HORI is a well established accessory maker for Switch.
While there is no mention of Hall effect tech on this model, it does have a number of things going for it outside of the lower price point – programmable rear buttons, precision analog sticks, “lightning-fast” wired response, and “tournament-ready performance.” It also features what the brand calls an ergonomic grip and a lightweight profile alongside Turbo settings and more:

No, it is not a direct replacement for the wireless Switch 2 Pro Controller, but it is one I’m considering at this point.
