Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Countdown [T-10 Days]: Pre-order dates, times, and more

The Countdown to the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct has begun: T-10 Days. There are only 10 days left until Nintendo officially takes the virtual stage as part of its latest Direct presentation, and this time it’s going to be all about Nintendo Switch 2, the games, the prices, the specs, and quite possibly pre-orders.

Countdown to Nintendo Switch 2 Direct [T-10 Days] – Pre-order details

Rumors, leaks, and expert analysis have been running rampant over the last couple months since Nintendo officially unveiled Switch 2. Speculation has been at an all-time high on the launch games, the potential MSRP of the new machine, new hardware features, display upgrades, and so on…but at this point I think we are all already sold so the only real question that matters is this: When are Switch 2 preorders going up?

When is Nintendo Switch 2 going up for preorder?

In our special countdown to the Switch 2 Direct series, we are starting off with some speculation and details on the upcoming Switch 2 preorders. This will give gamers at least 10 full days to prepare – get your memberships, retailer accounts, and purchase details ready to go folks!

As of right now no one really knows for sure when preorders will go live – save for Nintendo itself and perhaps (but not for sure) some major retailers. Nintendo is clearly trying to keep price leaks and preorder dates close to the chest at this point – hopefully this will mitigate some of the purchase bots and resellers from scooping up all of the units before actual people get a chance to score one.

The first possible chance for Nintendo Switch 2 preorders to go live will be April 2, 2025.

This is the date Nintendo will host the dedicated Switch 2 Direct presentation – it is set to go live at 9 a.m. ET on April 2. We can’t know for sure, but preorders might very well go live immediately after, or even during the show.

Nintendo Switch 2 guide – Price leaks, features, launch games, and more [Updated]

The original Nintendo Switch preorders launched immediately after the official Nintendo presentation the better part of a decade ago, and that might very well be the case this time around. We should all at the very least be very much ready to go for April 2 for this reason.

What time is the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct

Some have suggested Switch 2 preorders will go live at 10 a.m. ET, immediately following the Direct presentation, which is a reasonable expectation if last gen is any indication. This could mean we see listings from retailers like Target and Best Buy (these ones tend to jump the gun on major releases sometimes) even before that.

Others have suggested, Nintendo will load up retailers and gamers for a preorder launch the following day on April 3 and others still suggest Friday April 4. If it is going to be early next month, and not pushed into June when most experts (and former employees) think the machine will actually release, it would seem just about everyone expects one of these three days for Switch 2 preorders – April 2, April 3, or April 4.

Where to preorder Nintendo Switch 2?

Best Buy already has a sign-up landing page at the ready and so does GameStop, but this does not necessarily mean they will be the first retailers to go live. As any avid gadgetnewsonline reader will know, we have been doing this for well over a decade now and we can confidently say that relying on those on-page “sign-up for alerts” are a great way to completely miss your chance at an early preorder. You’ll want to stay locked to our social feeds and home page for up-to-the-minute updates on in-stock alerts to score one.

The countdown is on and we will be closely following updates as we approach the official Nintendo Direct presentation early next month, all while celebrating the soon to be previous-generation of Switch gaming with our special Countdown to Switch 2 Direct series.
