We are now tracking the best price ever on the new USB-C AirPods Max courtesy of Amazon. Apple unleashed the new USB-C AirPods Max in five new colors last September and all of them are now sitting down at a new $449.99 shipped all-time low. Regularly $549, this is a straight up $99 price drop and the best price we have tracked all-time.
This deal on Amazon is landing on the new Midnight paint job as well as the blue, orange, and purple set – it, at least as of right now, hasn’t dropped the Starlight model in price (although you will find that set matched at Best Buy today).
Today’s offer delivers a solid $99 in savings to undercut the previous $500 all-time low we tracked for Black Friday in 2024.
For some, the new paint jobs and the switch over to USB-C might not be worth paying the premium for – we do see the Lightning models drop lower than the $450 up for grabs here today on the newer USB-C variant. You can, in fact, still score an open-box Lightning unit from Best Buy in “excellent” condition down at $332 shipped, or $217 off the original $549 list price (Apple doesn’t sell the Lightning sets anymore). But the brand new Lightning models are now selling for more than the USB-C sets at Amazon.
Just about all of us would have preferred to see Apple drop a completely refreshed set of AirPods Max 2 last September, but it’s really the price tag that most of us want to see get dropped. For me, headphones are headphones, and AirPods Max are great headphones – most of the gimmicky “new” features on over-ear headphones are really just that in the end…all I really need is a comfortable fit, great sound, and reliable ANC. They just also happen to be way too pricey for some folks to invest in. That said, the latest models are now more affordable than ever.
