AgileBits releases 1Password 5.0 for iOS 8 as a freemium app w/ Touch ID support, more

Update (9/17 1:35pm): 1Password 5.0 for iOS is now available as a freemium download with in-app purchases for Pro features. Read more about this update here. All 1Password 4 for iOS customers will receive version 5.0 (along with all Pro features) for free. The deal below for version 4.5.3 is no longer available.

Late last night, 1Password for iOS (iPhone/iPad) dropped from $9.99 all the way down to free. This is the very first time that we’ve ever seen this insanely popular password manager available at no cost.

Simply put, we love this program for its simplicity, ease of use and rock solid security. 1Password acts as a vault for all of your website logins, credit card information and other confidential data. Users create one (long and strong) password which gives them access to the app and all of their information. It features a password generation tool to create crazy secure passwords and then remembers them so you don’t have to. Get the Mac version for $49.99.

Full disclosure: the 1Password team has said that this pricing may be the result of an App Store error related to the release of iOS 8. As such, we’re not sure how long this pricing will last and if it was indeed an error, what (if any) actions 1Password and/or iTunes will take after it returns to full price. It’s also possible that 1Password for iOS 8 may be going freemium, but the in-app purchases aren’t yet active.

This is not an Apple store/itunes store error…on the App Store description it says “Free Upgrade!…get version 5 and all Pro features for the low, low price of free!”… and it also says “offers In-App Purchases”…so it may not be so free after all.

Correct. The app just updated to version 5.0, which has a freemium pricing structure. The post this morning was for version 4.5.3. Please refer to the latest update in this post for more information. Thanks.
