Valve made a huge splash yesterday by announcing the launch of its new hardware, including the all-new Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and more. It’s safe to say that the brand is going all-in on hardware, and you can learn more about it in detail right here. While the Steam Machine is said to have a customizable front plate, which you can swap out for different ones with unique design, the folks over at Dbrand, as usual, are taking things a step further with a new “Companion Cube.” Head below for a closer look and more details.
Dbrand is teasing Steam Machine “Companion Cube”
Dbrand is known for dishing out some special edition cases and skins – think PS5 Darkplates or Killswitch cases for handhelds like the Switch 2 and ROG Ally. Now, it’s teasing yet another addition to its growing catalog of special edition releases, and this time it’s a custom design for the upcoming Steam Machine. Dbrand says it’s already factoring in the console’s removable faceplate and air intake layout, and says the Companion Cube concept is entirely feasible.
For the uninitiated, the Companion Cube is a beloved object from Valve’s Portal series. It’s a modified Weighted Storage Cube carrying pink hearts, which players must carry through Test Chamber 17 in the original game. It’s the first thing you think of after looking at the new Steam Machine, and Dbrand is making it happen.
