Nintendo has now officially launched Luigi’s Mansion for the GameCube Nintendo Classic library. As we reported previously, and after teasing the game months ago, Nintendo has launched the retro ghost hunting action right on (ahead of) schedule.
Luigi’s Mansion is now live on GameCube Nintendo Classics
Luigi’s Mansion originally debuted in North America on November 18 way back in 2001 for the Nintendo GameCube. It was arguably the first true, full experience with Luigi in starring role (although titles like Mario is Missing! did have the more lanky plumber at the helm) and spawned a pair of sequels in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon in 2013 (later released in remake form on Switch) and Luigi’s Mansion 3 in 2019 for Nintendo Switch. With today’s release, all three Luigi’s Mansion titles are now playable on Switch 2 – the GameCube library is sadly not available on Switch via Nintendo Classics.
Nintendo debuted the new Switch Online GameCube library at the same time as the new Switch 2 with three launch titles that were later expanded to five with the release if Super Mario Strikers and Chibi-Robo! And now, just ahead of Halloween 2025, the library is receiving another entry with the original Luigi’s Mansion.
Gamers subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass membership that also own a Switch 2 should find the game ready to play starting right now.
Enter Luigi’s Mansion, where a gallery of ghouls haunt the halls, secrets wait to be unearthed, and Luigi is … not the most courageous character around. Luckily, Professor E. Gadd is on the scene, and he has the perfect tools for the occasion! Play as Luigi, capture ghosts with the Poltergust 3000, track his items and whereabouts with the Game Boy™ Horror device, and help save Mario from a frightening fate in this action-adventure game originally released for the Nintendo GameCube system in 2001.
