Apple’s all-new M5 iPad Pro and the new M5-powered MacBook Pro have arrived. We have already detailed the now live pre-order listings for folks who might prefer to grab one via Amazon or Best Buy (or just have some gift cards saved up to put towards one) and now it’s time to take a look at the trade-in values you can land at Best Buy. Some of the more affordable M4 MacBook Pro models are yielding as much as $950 in savings on the new M5 MacBook Pro, so let’s take a closer look below.
M5 MacBook Pro trade-in deals
This year’s M5 MacBook Pro lineup has arrived, as you’ll already know from our coverage this morning at 9to5Mac, in the same silver and Space Black with the higher-end M5 Pro and M5 Max models coming down the pipeline at a later time.
Pre-orders are now live at Amazon and Best Buy:
While we always recommend folks check the trade-in values straight from Apple, Best Buy tends to be quite competitive when it comes to trade-in values on new Apple releases, so let’s quickly go over the values we are seeing right now for reference to ensure you land the best value (and the deepest deal towards your new M5 machine).
We obviously can’t check every single possible machine Best Buy will accept for trade, but the values we have checked on some of Apple’s latest releases will give you a good idea of what to expect:

As of right now, Best Buy is offering us $800 off the base model M5 MacBook Pro when trading in the base model M4 MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM and the 512GB SSD.

That number jumps up to $950 when you go to trade in the same machine with 24GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. You perhaps aren’t likely to downgrade your RAM and storage count here, but this will yield a significantly lower price on a new M5.

And just for reference, for those who might be looking to upgrade an M4 MacBook Air, Best Buy is offering $550 off the base model M5 MacBook Pro when trading in a 13-inch M4 MacBook Air with 16GB of RAM.
You’ll obviously receive less trade-in value with less powerful and older machines, and you will most definitely want to check what Apple will give you when you drop your serial number down, but Best Buy does typically remain quite competitive and can often times be even more generous than Apple will be.
