Apple’s iPhone Air MagSafe Battery costs $99, here’s some great alternatives from $20

Apple unleashed the all-new Apple iPhone Air MagSafe Battery – a tailored made magnetic power bank for the iPhone Air (you can also use it on the 17 Pro Max as you can see right here). It looks super sleek, if not slightly awkward on the wrong color iPhone Air/case setup to me, and it’s also wildly expensive for what it is – let’s take a look at some Apple iPhone Air MagSafe Battery alternatives (for a whole lot less than $99).

Best iPhone Air MagSafe Battery alternatives

There’s nothing quite like first-party accessories – I happen to love me some Apple charging gear and cases, and all of that – but man is this thing expensive for what it is. It is pretty thin and sleek, you can get some on-screen charge status via the battery widget, and it does have that Apple design touch, there’s no denying that.

But…it is also white and stands out like an ugly sore thumb depending on your Air/phone and case of choice. And it’s also only roughly 3,000mAh of extra power (and more realistically less than that with the loss of juice over the wireless transmission) – Apple rates it as being capable of providing 65% of actual charge – “extending battery life further than that of any other iPhone.”

Even if that is all true, and it mostly is, the real problem for me with this thing is the price – $99 for a roughly 3,000mAh power bank is sort of nuts, even by Apple standards. I certainly wouldn’t blame you for picking one up, they are quite nice in the hand, but let’s take a look at some alternatives for a fraction of the price that will deliver for more charge on the go than the new Apple iPhone Air MagSafe Battery, not to mention work with just a bout any phone you stick it to.

Anker Nano Power Bank

There are certainly more beefy options out there, but this new 5,000mAh Anker Nano Power Bank delivers up to 15W of Qi2 juice and measures out at just 0.3-inches in thickness. It comes in four color options and you score one for $45.99 shipped on Amazon right now.

iVANKY Ultra Slim MagSafe Power Bank

This IVANKY MagSafe Power Bank comes in at the same 0.3-inches in thickness (this size is more than just a trend in the third-party power bank space these days) and with the same 5,000mAh capacity, but it also delivers a nice space gray like paint job that’s arguably far more neutral than most, and best of all you can score one for just $23 Prime shipped (or less).

Baseus Picogo Power Bank

Here’s another 0.3-inch model with a 5,000mAh capacity you can land for $20 Prime shipped on Amazon right now. It is among the more compact options out there and features a 20W USB-C port, alongside an aluminum shell.

LISEN Ultra Slim MagSafe Power Bank

This LISEN model has been popular among gadgetnewsonline readers not only because you can land one from $20 Prime shipped, but also for its super slender look and your choice of three color options. You can also score a 2x 10,000mAh variant, but it’s naturally not going to be as compact and thin as the 5K.

TORRAS MiniMag Power Bank

The TORRAS MiniMag Power Bank is a step up in price from some of the others here, but, in my experience, it is also a step up in quality from the ultra-affordable options. It will charge your gear much the same as the others here, features the same 5,000mAh capacity, and measures out at the same 0.3 inches. It does have a nice sort of rounded beveled edge and some onboard LED action to indicate its battery level though.

KU XIU Solid-State MagSafe Power Bank

One of the emerging trends in the power bank space is solid-state or semi-solid state batteries. It is said to be a safer option than traditional lithium-ion cells that, in this case, is built to resist liquid electrolyte exposure, punctures, and heat stress. I have personally never had an issue with the other power banks on this list, but I certainly like the idea of this – the main issue is that they all seem to be a touch thicker and more expensive. This one will cost you $50 for the same 5000mAh capacity. All of that said, I do think some solid state drives deserve a place on this list – check out the STATIK State model too.
