Sony officially announces this week’s State of Play showcase – 35-mins. of game ‘reveals and news’

Nintendo just hit us with one of the most epic September showcases in recent memory at the latest Direct, and now Sony is looking to get in on the action as it has just announced the next PlayStation State of Play. Last time around we got a dedicated 30-minute rundown of the new James Bond game, but this week State of Play is returning to form with a relatively sizable showcase of reveals and updates from devs across the globe, including PlayStation Studios.

I love a good dedicated Direct or State of Play if I’m being honest – it really gives you a good look at what is typically a big upcoming game. But that’s only the case if it’s one you’re actually into and you’re not likely to get that one big-time surprise announcement like you are with a more traditional, rapid fire showing.

Fortunately, this week’s State of Play is at least primed to deliver, with “more than 35 minutes of reveals and news from developers around the world,” including “new looks at anticipated third-party and indie titles, plus updates from some of our teams at PlayStation Studios.”

Sony has specifically mentioned that we will be getting a look at Housemarque’s mysterious new title, Saros, ahead of its launch next year with nearly “five minutes of gameplay captured on PS5.”

But beyond that, everything is up in the air, and frankly that’s the way we like it best. We are expecting to get at least a little something from the upcoming Ghost of Yotei ahead of release next month, but we have already seen a ton of that one and Sony is going to need to come up with a whole more than that to keep up with this month’s Nintendo Direct – PlayStation Studio better be on its toes this week.

This week’s State of Play is scheduled for September 24 at 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. ET – it will be live everywhere including the official PlayStation YouTube channel and right here on gadgetnewsonline.
