Nintendo Direct goes live today – one of the biggest and longest ever

Nintendo Direct goes live this morning, and it’s going to be a big one folks. Nintendo has not been tight about livestream events in this the year of its new next-generation console, from three major dedicated showcases for its biggest new Switch 2 game releases, as well as an IndieWorld and a Partner Showcase that perhaps seemed worse then they were just because Silksong wasn’t in them. But Silksong has released, and we already have all the details and a release date on the new Kirby Air Riders – today’s show is going to be one of the biggest Nintendo Direct livestreams ever and the first proper showing since Switch 2 barely had a chance to touch down on store shelves before we all scooped them up.

Nintendo Direct goes live today

I don’t think anyone outside of the hallowed halls of Nintendo’s development studios and corporate offices could have predicted we would have to wait over three months after Switch 2’s release to get a full-on proper Direct showcase. Again, Nintendo has not been stingy here – there has already been far more Direct and Direct-like showcases than normal over that stretch of time – but today we are getting the real thing, a full-force Direct set to showcase what one can only assume will be a ton of new games, release dates for those we already know about, and hopefully some seriously major teasers.

As we have already mentioned more than once, Nintendo basically has to give us the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond release date today – it has been a long time coming, a very long time coming, and if it is releasing this year we need to know when, and we need to know today.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been one of the more anticipated titles on Nintendo’s slate for quite some time, and we really need to know the date, but it is also a game we have already seen a ton of in terms of gameplay and just serving up the date we all already expected to have by now is not going to be enough. We want it, and we want it bad, and, perhaps even more so, just to confirm it is releasing this year as promised, but that’s not going to be enough. We want, and expect, a whole lot more than that from a 60-minute Switch 2 Nintendo Direct.

On that point, simply confirming all of the third-party ports that have been rumored for several months now isn’t going to be enough for me either. Yes, I want the Hades II release date, and I would love to see the latest adventures in the Assassin’s Creed adventures appear, not to mention all those Microsoft Xbox titles we were (more or less) promised, but it’s the world’s most famous plumber’s 40th anniversary, and there better be more than all of that too.

Okay, I’m starting to sound greedy, but it’s not like I’m demanding a new Animal Crossing Switch 2 game, or the next mainline Zelda title, or even a new 3D Mario game here. It’s just that this is the first big Direct post Switch 2 launch, one of the longest in history, and Mario hasn’t (for the most part) appeared outside of a go-kart once since the launch of the next-generation Nintendo console.

Give us a major Mario teaser, a small glimpse at pre-, pre-, pre-Alpha next-gen Hyrule…just say you’re making one. Flip everyone out and tease the new Animal Crossing Switch 2 game. Something, and something big.

Mario’s 35th anniversary was a relatively exciting one with actual game releases…do that again and everyone will (mostly) be happy.

Okay, enough’s enough…the massive September Nintendo Direct showcase is set to run for “roughly 60 minutes” and it is all set to go live this morning at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET, tune in along with us down below:
