It’s actually happening. The rumors were true. Nintendo has now officially confirmed the next Nintendo Direct and it is set to go live this Friday at the usual time.
September Nintendo Direct goes live this week
The official announcement is sure to be everywhere very soon, but Nintendo has once again taken to the official Nintendo Today! app to unleash today’s announcement. After months of speculation we now know Nintendo will indeed be hosting its usual September Direct and it is set to go live very soon.
As of right now, the only thing we know for sure is that the next Nintendo Direct will go live on Friday, September 12 at the usual time: 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET.
Update: Nintendo has now confirmed this is going to be a big one that runs for roughly 60 minutes:
Join us on Sept. 12 at 6 a.m. PT for a Nintendo Direct! Tune in for roughly 60 minutes of information on upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch games.
There are no details on what Nintendo will have on display, but judging by the announcement key art this is the one just about everyone has been waiting for. It’s not an IndieWorld, or a Partner Showcase, and it’s not a dedicated Direct focusing on one game (although the last couple of those have been admittedly quite good), but rather a proper full-on Nintendo Direct showcase – the very first of its kind post Switch 2 launch.
Not only were the rumors true, but the actual date we reported on back in late August was spot on. Nintendo does tend to favor the middle of the week for these presentations, but it looks like the first proper Direct for Switch 2 is set to go live Friday morning now. Nintendo has hosted a Direct every September for many year, save for last year, and it is once again in 2025.
Will we get the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond release date? I seriously hope so. Will a new Mario game make an appearance? Zelda? We really don’t know for sure but we will very much be tuning in along with you come this Friday! There is much speculation surrounding the Mario 40th anniversary so we could be in for some serious surprises this week – not entirely reliable rumors suggested a new Mario collection for Switch 2 was in the works, but one would have to expect at least something in the way of a new release after Nintendo went hard for Mario’s 35th.
