Sony announces 007 First Light State of Play – 30-minutes of gameplay for the new Bond game

Sony has now announced the next State of Play – a deep dive into the new James Bond game. The upcoming 007 First Light is set to shine a light on what sounds like a new origin story for the world-renown, jet-setting secret agent and we are for a lengthy look at bond’s first mission this week.

Sony debuted the game’s reveal trailer back June, to give folks a bit of closer at IO’s new take on Bond, but we are diving in much deeper this week.

The show will go live on September 3 at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET

James Bond is set to make a triumphant return to consoles, Switch 2 included, sometime in 2026. While aren’t sure if this week’s State of Play will actually give us a firm release date or not, we do know we will get a much better look at how the game really plays.

We will be getting a full 30 minutes of gameplay featuring a play through of “Bond’s first mission as an MI6 recruit.” This will apparently include everything from “high-speed car chases to on-foot stealth sequences and shootouts.” You know, all the stuff any good Bond game should include. The real question for me is whether or not that special brand of IO Interactive-style gameplay will show up in the experience – this is coming from, at least, part of the the development team that cut its teeth on decades of Hitman games after all.

In the meantime you can scope out the 007 First Light announcement trailer below:

Prepare for a deep dive on 007 First Light! During this special State of Play, the development team at IO Interactive declassifies new gameplay on James Bond’s upcoming espionage action-adventure thrill ride.

Catch the show live on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels on September 3 at 11am PT / 7pm BST / 8pm CEST.
